Complaint Review: Clever Island

This company tells you they will send you a "free $20 gift card" for joining their web-site which is a "Children's Learning Center". You must give them your Credit Card # and they charge you a $1.00 processing fee to start. There is a 15 day trial period during which you may cancel and they will not charge you the normal $9.99 per month if you are not satisfied.

I did not wish to continue, so I cancelled and this was not a problem (This was 10/15/03)and I was told on the phone that my gift card would still arrive in 6 to 8 weeks.

I called them in mid-December because I had not received the gift-card and was told they "were behind in processing". They told me to give it another 3 or 4 weeks.

I called again on Jan 19th and 20th - spoke to 3 different people (including a manager) and now suddenly I "did not fill out the correct form" so they can't send me the card. I DID fill out everything that was available to fill out back in October, and although everyone working there was polite, suddenly there is "nothing they can do" to get me the card!

I believe that this "$20 gift card" is a scam just to get people to sign up - although they would not admit this to me! BEWARE!
