This telemarking company contacted my minor daughter on her new cell phone and told her that she had won a car in a sweepstakes. They told her that she needed to give permission to have the call recorded or she could lose the car and then proceeded to walk her through a committment to purchasing over $1,000 worth of magazines. This was a very choppy, automated voice promting her to give information. She was coached by a live voice in the background telling her what to say, as her response was always "I don't know". I heard the recording and she clearly did not know what she was doing and was told what to say after every promt. Of course there is no recording of how the conversation started or ended nor is there a recording of her giving the credit card number or who's name appeared on the credit card. The credit card belongs to her step father, clearly a man's name and not even the same last name. I cannot be sure how they obtained the credit card information, as it was an inactive card.

I can only imagine the potential for elder abuse or other nonsuspecting individuals who are not alert enough to recognize a scam.
