I bought a car from these people about a year and a half ago. A month after i bought it, it stopped running. Within the first six monts, the alternator, brakes, battery and engine all had to be replaced. Not to mention the fact that I am payin g more than double the value of the vehicle. This dealership is a real rip off artist. I took a payment into their office one day because it was close to the due date and i did not want to risk it being late. Their system rejected my check , even though i normally pay by check and have never had a check to them bounce. I usually mail my payments in, which forces them to deposit it into their bank. They refused my payment and I said I would just go home and mail it to them. They refused this also and told me i had to come back by the end of the day with cash. the dealership is almost an hour out of my way and i go to school after work so i told them i could not. next morning i woke up and they had repossed my car. i could not beleive that they would do that because i went in to make the payment. they did not care. and to top it all off they made me wait for three hours and charged me an extra 150.00 to get mny car back. i have tried to trade it in, but noone will take it because of what JD Byrider charged me. I owe almst 6 grand on a 1994 pontiac grand am that is worth MAYBE 1000.00 Next year though, i am moving out of state and taking the car with me. lets see them try to repo it then.

About 10 years ago I bought a car from J.D. ByRider. I KNEW going into the deal that I was paying too much for the car and that the interest rate was insane but I didn't care because A.) I needed a car and quick and B.) I was too proud to buy a piece of crap for a couple hundred bucks and then save my money the old fashioned way until I could buy a better car. I didn't have good credit due to a prior repossesion so I didn't have very many options. Did they rip me off? Of course! Did I know they were doing it?

Of course! I paid off the car, cussing about it the whole time and when I was done, I drove it until it died and then swallowed my pride and bought a piece of junk, threw the $280 that I had been giving to them every month into the bank to earn interest and two years later when the $500 piece of junk died, I bought a nicer car with $5,000 of the more than $7,000 that I had saved.

I now save $300 a month, I think the $5,000 car will last me at two more years and when I go to buy a new car I will have saved a whopping $22,000 plus all the interest minus the few hundred that I have taken out over the years for unexpected repairs. I am not in any way trying to brag, but JD ByRider taught me a good lesson, I don't want to pay more for anything than it is worth. If you absolutely have to take out a loan and don't have good credit, try to find a little mom and pop place that will let you pay the bulk of the price and then pay them the last few hundred over a few months, they are out there.

As far as rebuilding your credit, don't do it with a car payment if you don't absolutely have to. Get a secured credit card and pay it off every month, it will be much cheaper. After my 24% loan with JD, I checked on other loans and the best I could get at that time was 17%. Not that good of a deal considering that I had no late pays with JD and nothing else bad on my credit in that three years.

Just remember, that it's your money, try to keep more of it in your pocket! And don't worry about those people who laugh at you when you are driving a piece of junk. If you save what you had been spending on a car payment, they won't be laughing when you have enough in 5 years to buy a new car with cash!!

In response to David's rebuttal, it is true that the company paid for a tow and fixed a window (two as a matter of fact) that stopped working. These things were done because they happened within 60-90 days of my purchasing the car and the warranty requires them to do so.

Everyone Loses in a JD Byrider Transaction

#16Consumer Suggestion

The financially strapped, credit challenged consumer loses every time they purchase and finance a vehicle from JD Byrider.

They pay a 100% or more mark up on the vehicle, they pay an interest rate in excess of 20%, they are upside down in the vehicle until the last few months of the loan, their warranty expires long before the loan ends.

Most of your customers can qualify for sub prime "bank" financing which forces the dealer to price according to the "book value" unlike JD Byrider pricing. Interest rates with sub prime are often below 20%.

The consumer can purchase a legitimate warranty with major coverages for a fair price-it's not forced upon them.

If they can't qualify for sub prime they should save their money-buy a vehicle for cash, improve their credit and in no time they will qualify for traditional financing-sub prime is much better than Byrider.

So you the president lose constantly from bad loans, expensive capital, and negative press and PR all over the country related to JD Byrider bad business practices. Who wins? Maybe the only winner here is the Franchisor collecting your royalties!

First of all I do not like the auto industry but I do like what J.D. Byrider does in this industry. Now, you need to understand on thing every McDonalds you go into is NOT the same as the last one you went into. There are better McDonalds than others. I bought this Franchise for two reasons: 1)J.D. Byrider is in this industry to help people with poor credit. Remember, 50% of the people in the U.S. can not get conventional financing. So, you first must thank the conventional banks for not supporting 50% of the U.S. population. Also, we did not get conventional financing when we opened this business nor do we have conventional financing yet! I am paying 25% interest to an investor! 2) The business plan works for the customer and the owners.

The program in Las Vegas is this: 18 month or 18,000 mile limited warranty compared to our competitors who have typically a 3 months or 3,000 mile warranty at best. If the warranty is longer it is probably through a third party insurance company. Good luck in dealing with them and the dealer!!!!!

Customer Care Program: J.D. Byrider will provide parts for our customer (when the warranty does not cover the problem or when the warranty is no longer in play) at our cost (no mark-up)+ tax and we will do the repairs for $32.00 per hour real time. We charge for the actual time it takes to do the repair. The industry charges by Book Time!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This means they repair your car in 1.5 hours and they charge you for 3.0 hours at $90.00 per hour.

Credit Bureau Reporting: We report to all three major credit bureau's to help the customer get good credit.

We do not sell a third party warranty because a lot have gone out of business. But most importantly, we are truely connected to the customer for the life of the loan. Our longest loan is 3.2 years!! This is a very short period of time for a auto loan in today's terms. We also try very hard to keep the loan payments as small as we can. Short loan periods and small payments help the customer and us succeed.

One thing for sure there is not a perfect car on this planet. I have had some very nice cars in my life time and eveyone broke down at some point. My Toyota Landcruiser left me stranded four times last year. It is not a piece of junk, it is a good truck with some parts that saw the end of it use. A brand new BMW motorcycle with less than 6,000 miles was in the shop 15 times in 18 months.

It is easy to get upset when you buy something and pay top of the market for it and it breaks down. Unfortunately, this problem will never end. At J.D. Byrider you are buying more than a car. The warranty, reporting and the customer care program. There is a lot of value in the program!!

The young lady who started the report has been treated very well. We have done more than the warranty required. Because we do care! Believe it or not we are happy to do that when we have a good team mate. When I say team mate I mean team mate. Our customer is not just a customer. If they do not succeed we do not succeed. But remember our team mates have obligation to us as much as we have obligation to them.

In looking at the service report we have non-warranted items fixed by us and at no cost to her. We fixed some exterior lighting at no cost, paid for a tow at no cost, fixed a window that stopped going up and down at no cost, replaced transmission mounts and Engine mounts at no cost. We did not desire our customer to have these problems!!!!

Anyway, I do take this personal because I want to help people not hurt them. I also want to succeed and not lose everything that I own. Everything I own and my business partner own are our lenders until we pay them back! You know the old American Dream is not as easy as it looks! Remember, 80% of new business fail in one year. We want to succeed so we can be here to help our customers.

If you do not like our industry you and I agree on something!!!! If you think you can perform better than us please go get financed ( you will need about a $4,000,000 loan), sign a lease next door to our business, provide a healthcare plan for your employees ( By the way, Walmart makes a lot of new employees work less than 40 hours so they do not have to particapate in health care), pay your employees on time and all of the other vendors. It is not easy!

The last thing I have to say is if I could sell the perfect car I would. I then would not have to have a service center and all of the problems a car will surely provide at some point in its life. Sincerely,

David

Actually, "Dave" you are patially correct. The check was rejected by Telecheck. I have, however, never written a bad check to JD Byrider or CNAC. As a matter of fact, the payment before the payment in question was made via a check on the same account. They accepted it and it clear with no problems. The only difference is that I mailed the previous check in. I am not a lying rat. I said it as it happened. I went in to pay and was told that I had to come back the same day with cash or they would pick up my car. I couldn't go back because I work full time and go to school at night. That night happened to be the night of my Sociology final. Anyways, this is not important. What is important is that on a recent service trip to the local dealership for service, "Dave" the owner of said dealership confronted me with the report I had posted. He and a CNAC account rep called me into a room. He expressed that he was displeased with the statements I made on this site, and he sternly "requested" that I retract my statments immediately. I was told that failure to do so would result in the company refusing to go above and beyond on my behalf anymore. I explained to Dave that the comapany has never done this nor have I ever expected them to. I'm entitled to my opinion and to free speech. I'm sorry that there are some out there who may disagree with my sentiments, but I am nonetheless free to share them. I will, however, make this statement: If I hold any grudge or ill will toward JD Byrider, it is entirely directed at the sales and account staff. The service department and its manager, Mike, are simply amazing. My car has pretty much felt like it was falling apart constantly since I bought it, but Mike has always taken care of me... pursuant to the warranty. And for those of you who did not quite pick up on it, the bit about moving to New Jersey and hiding the car there was humor. There would be no point to that. My credit score would plummet because the loan would be delinquent. I may have been dumb enough to buy a car from JD Byrider, but I'm not stupid.

He says, and I quote "I took a payment into their office one day because it was close to the due date and i did not want to risk it being late".

So, he wasn't late, and he says the car was repoed the NEXT MORNING?? I smell a lying rat here. Don't get me wrong, I agree that J.B. Byrider is the scum of the earth, but in this case you deserved the repo, cause YOU WERE LATE WITH YOUR PAYMENT! And they probably used telecheck, which rejected your check, so you obviously have written bad checks in the past.

Instead of stealing a piece of crap car, why not spend that energy in rebuilding your credit. Then this wouldn't happen anymore.

Of course it was junk, that's what this company sells.

Next time, save up some money and buy a car from a private party. That way, you can take it for a long test drive. You can stop and park, and then see how the car restarts.

In other words, you have a much better chance of spotting junk than if you are buying from a dealer.

In addition, you only pay $900 for a $1000 car, not the $6000 that you were charged.

Here's a clue. If you don't wanna get eaten alive, stay away from the sharks.

Not that hard to do. All car dealers are sharks.

Any questions?

Don't try to hide the car

Hiding the car will only make the matter worse. For starters, your new address will be found. If you get a job, use your credit card, open an an account at Blockbuster video, get utilities, get cable, buy property, get sued, get a ticket, re-register the car, get a PO box, get a cell phone almost anything, then you can be located.

Also, some states, failing to return a car after defaulting on a contract is a crime and subject to criminal penalties.

I would recommend paying your future payments by cashiers check and either hand delivered or sent certified mail. Yes, it is more expense, but less than the $150 repo fee.

Good luck
