I have received a letter from my bank stating that my account has been frozen and any money that I have in this account will be transferred to another account to pay a debt of $4200 to RPI Enterprises LLC. I don't know who RPI Enterprises LLC is nor have I ever heard of such company. I just learned their representatives Cohen & Slamowitz, LLP have other others on this website in predicaments such as mine. I am not legal smart in any sense and I have been reading the other two complaints with this company that is posted on this website. Just like another person and her husband, I am broke and cannot afford to go get a lawyer. My girlfriend is trying to help me out here but if anyone can give me advise on what to do next that would be great. So far this is what I am doing:

-I am looking for an attorney that I can afford
-Going to the county cleak to get a copy of the court order on my case as I never received one.

I am trying to follow the steps that was recommended for the other two cases but like I said before, I am not smart with legal issues and do need help. If anyone can please help me that would be great. I am a college student and already have bills up the wahzoo, I don't need anymore headaches.

thank you in advance for helping me.

Complaints won't help you personally, you need a lawyer

It sounds like you got a default judgment against you and a subsequent lien/garnishment against your bank account. Or you could possibly have an upcoming suit, and your bank account was "attached" as part of that suit.

The FTC/AG complaints are a solid idea, but they won't do anything to fix your particular situation. The FTC is not your lawyer and lacks the ability to remedy your particular problem.

If there is a default judgment, you'll have to try to get it set aside. Despite advice that I often see on here, this is NOT an easy task, but it is possible if you can prove either lack of notice or excusable neglect (emphasis on "excusable" - merely ignoring legal notices is not a viable excuse).

At this point, and assuming that you have a judgment against you, the validity of the underlying debt is irrelevant. As long as the judgment is on the books, the debt is valid (because a judge said that it is).

The bottom line is that you need a lawyer. Contact local bar associations to find a cheap or pro bono attorney; see if there is a legal aid outfit in your area; and contact local law schools to see if they operate clinics that may be able to help you. If you are willing to put the work into it, you WILL be able to find a lawyer that you can afford.

Best of luck!

#4Consumer Suggestion

Hi Daniel. Are you still trying to fight this?
I have a few more suggestions for you. I recently discovered that Assemblywoman Audrey Pheffer (she represents Queens) is working on legislation to address this issue. I suggest you send her an email telling her about what happened to you. Here is her email address:
Pheffea@assembly.state.ny.us
You can also write to your member of Congress, and to the assemblyperson for your district. You can find out who your representatives are by doing a simple web search.
Good luck, and keep me posted.

Dear Daniel,
Here is what I've done so far about my hubby's problem with these monsters. I filed a complaint at FTC.GOV which is the website for the Federal Trade Commission (Thanks to Stevbe from FL for that helpful bit of advice). It is something you can do right now and it doesn't cost anything. They have a place on there website for you to file your complaint. Tell them exactly what happened and who did it to you. I filed my complaint, so if they see someone else with the same problem, maybe they'll do something about it. Also, get the address/phone # of the Bar Association in your area and the also their's. Request that complaint forms be sent to you. I just got mine and will be filling them out & sending them very soon. Perhaps they will also notice a pattern when they see more than one person with the same abuse done to them.
Those are 2 things that you can do that don't cost anything. I will continue looking to see who else we can complain to. I wrote to the Attorney General and told them what happened to my husband, perhaps you should write to him too.
Good Luck, and keep me posted.
