I recieved a letter in the mail from Collect Pros.  The letter states that I owe $332.50 for a subscription to US Weekly Magazine and they are attempting to collect a debt.

Funny thing is, I NEVER ordered a subscription to US Weekly Magazine so of course I called the phone number listed on the letter to find out what's what.

After listening to their recorded message telling me all the ways I can pay, I finally got the option to speak with a representative.  When the individual came online, he immediately asked me for my reference number.  After giving my reference number, he then proceded to tell me that I owed $332.50 for a subscription to US Weekly Magazine and how would I like to pay for that.

Never once did he tell me, as required by law, that he was from a collection agency and that this was an attempt to collect a debt, blah, blah, blah.  That was tip off number one, that something wasn't right.

When I told him that I never subscribed to US Weekly, nor did I ever even receive a magazine, he went on to tell me that I had signed up for the magazine on June 29, 2014, going to my previous address and that I owe $332.50.  I informed him, that I had just moved back to the States around that time after being overseas for the past 2 years and had yet to even move in!

When I pressed him further about wanting proof that I signed up for US Weekly Magazine, I was told that he didn't have the information that I was requesting and to go to collectpros.com/dispute to dispute the bill.  It was then at that time, that he told me to have a good day and hung up on me.

I went to the above referenced website to dispute this ridiculous 'bill', low and behold, they were suddenly able to verify this debt saying the following (some items left out):

Debt Validation: Terms and Conditions of your Original Purchase - Purchased From: Levy 9 Consulting Magazines - The Terms and Conditions of this purchase are verified and include an audio recording of the customer agreeing to the terms and conditions of purchase.

WOW! Really?! Funny how when on the phone they couldn't verify anything, yet 2 minutes later, while disputing online, they say it's been verified and they have an audio recording of me agreeing!!  Hmmmm, yeah, okay.  If that's the case, why was I not able to listen to this recording when I asked for proof while on the phone?

That's okay, I've got the letter as well as screen shots on my phone of this supposed verification and will be contacting the authorities about this.

What ever you do, DO NOT FALL FOR THIS SCAM!!!
