This collection agency for Direct Merchants Bank will not give us any information (like the full DMB account number). A chargeoff by Portfolio appeared on my husband's credit reports over 2 years ago (nothing from DMB). He never had an account with DMB, according to DMB's office.

His mother had an account, but defaulted on it in 1998. Portfolio's phone goons told us that he was responsible for her bill. They would not send us proof that he applied for this account and refuse to remove this derogatory entry. The credit bureaus "investigated" and without providing evidence, said the debt was his.

My husband's elderly mother was declared severely mentally ill 30 years ago and has horrible credit, yet these idiots still send her credit cards.

Abuse such as this is why we should write our elected officials and DEMAND credit card and credit reporting reforms. We are at the mercy of credit bureaus and unless you can afford legal action, you have little or no effective recourse.

PS: Lest you think I am one of those whiney deadbeats who is trying to get out of my debts, I assure you that I have credit scores from 775-805. This single bad entry has reduced my husband's scores by 80-85 points.
