A technician from Collins Comfort Masters came to our home to repair the A/C system. He said he had done so, charged us $150 & left. While at our home, he charged up the freon. Two days later, we were melting yet again. We called Collins Comfort Masters & were told a technician would be sent out.

This time we got 2 technicians. Well, that didn't help much either. They were at our home for 3 hours. The said they had to solder one of the lines coming for the manifold. Next thing they tell us, we aren't getting charged for the visit & "they want to wash their hands of it"!!! Can you believe that?!

They advised that our system would have constant leaks & need service/ replacement. Well, apparently they did not accel in welding class. The line they were to weld was in fact capped off, diminishing the capacity of our unit by 16%. They never even informed us that they had sabotaged / damaged our A/C unit.

The owner, Collins Owens did refund the $150 that we paid on the first visit. He refused to respond to my letter requesting an explanation for shoddy work & poor customer service skills. He further failed to respond in any way to the workmanship of his employees. See ya in court, Collins. I was taught growing up that if "ya break it, ya fix it". A good job is a job done right the first time. Seems like Collins Comfort Masters could do with some welding classes or some honesty! Come on!

I work in the customer service department of an A/C company here in Phoenix (a reputable company!) Did this company, at any point, state you had a freon leak, that coil needed to be replaced or that maybe the unit was just too old and the coil was no longer available? It does sound as if you probably have (or had) a freon leak because the charge was (according to them) low. Have you gotten a second opinion?????

I don't know how you found this company, but if you did it with the yellow pages you can almost bet they are taking you for a ride. The company I work for had been following another company most of the summer. They were targeting eldery people, or single/widowed women for their little rip-off's. We actually had one of our warranty customers call us in tears because of what these buttheads had told her! I would get another contractor out to look at the unit. Some companies (like the one I work for) offer free second opinions on other companies evaluations. You should call the Arizona Heat Pump Council and they can provide you with the number to one of their participating, REPUTABLE contracors.

I am a certified technician in richmond virginia with over 16 yers experance and im a little upside down on some of the details in your report

1 ) The line they were to weld was in fact capped off

A)do you have more then one set of line running for your ac?

or did they cut one of the line sets and cap it off?

2) diminishing the capacity of our unit by 16%

How do you know this? thats a pretty exact precentage for dimmished capacitiy?

Theres only one way that i can see that happinig and since i havnt personnaly looked at the unit im only making a guess which i could be wrong at.

If one of the capullary tubes at the coil its self was leaking and thats what they capped off now if thats the case those tubes as small as they are are dificult to repair correctly even for the most experianced of us, too much heat they melt and are useless to mmuch silver and the tube is filled up causing a restriction so depending on the skill level of the technician he could have either done one of three things ; advised replacement of coil , replace/repair captubes , cap off bad cap, like i siad i havnt seen your unit so i dont knowexactly what they capped off and i could be wrong but if i am right you have a couple differant avenues to explore, i would still like to know though how you came up with 16%

P.S for future referance its called brazeing , welding is something totally differant ;-)
