COLOMBIA HOUSE ripoff sent me to NATIOWIDE COLLECTIONS in FL items never ordered under my name at wrong address TERRE HAUTE Indiana
I Received a NATIONWIDE COLLECTIONS notice who owns a debt of $53.10 originally from COLUMBIA HOUSE.
It was forwarded to me by a friend because I am in FRANCE for a while.
Of course,I freaked out and called the agency, told them I never ordered any merchandises from Columbia House EVER.
I asked a few questions and learned the account had been closed in Oct/2004 for non-payment and to my surprise, it was for DVD's received or sent to a FRIEND's address.
I was able to call C H after trying all the # I could find on the net(some work at one point, you have to keep trying),rep told me that they would notify N C inc to remove my name from its files and disregard futur requests for payment and I even got an E-Mail from C H Customer Service confirming.Their e-mail contains my original C H Account# but N C inc is referred as Collection Agency, my name is not included either.
NEED YOUR ADVICE: Should I still dispute debt with Nationwide Collections and ask for verification?
Is Columbia House E-Mail valid proof?Should I FAX it to Nationwide Collections or just forget the all thing?
Thank you and good luck to all.

And being that I haven't had a Columbia House account since 2000, I knew it was bogus.
The first thing that got my attention was the Nationwide notice, which was chock full of FDCPA violations. Needless to say, I disputed it, demanded validation, heard nothing back and yesterday filed suit against them.
Bottomfeeders like Nationwide and others don't care if the debt is yours or not... their "notice" proves that they get paid by scaring people with threats of lawsuits that they have no intention of filing. Their threats overshadow the small paragraph about your right to validate. Not to mention that there is no Rosenthal.
Demand validation and check your credit reports to make sure they haven't placed a negative entry..if they have, dispute with the credit bureaus and file suit in Small Claims Court.
