Complaint Review: Columbia House

Columbia House BOGUS ACCOUNT - COLLECTIONS THREAT deceptive company Terre Haute Indiana

I received a threatening collections letter from Columbia House. They claim I have a contract to buy videos from them and they claim that I've broken the contract. They demand $51.72 or they will submit my so-called "account" to a "professional collection agency."

The interesting thing is, I didn't join their "club." I didn't sign a contract and I've never received ANY service or correspondence regarding this so-called account prior to this day.

Of course, the phone number on the "statement" does not lead to a human being.

Scam on their part or misunderstanding/mistake on someone else's? I'd like to know. One thing I do know, my consent was never involved.

They can send your so called "BILL" to a collection agency all day long but they need your ss# to put the "Outstanding" bill on your credit report. I have known numerous amounts of people that would order tapes and cd's throught them and never paid a penny. Some of them still get a collection letter for cd's they recieved 2 years ago. And not one cent shows up on there credit report.
