I did not sign up for the Columbia House DVD club and I received a package with a DVD and a bill stating that I signed up for the club. I tried calling their "800" number to speak with someone - only to be led in a loop of the "please press this number" for this and that and no press this number to speak to an actual person. I then noticed that I received emails telling me that I signed up for the club - I had ignored these since I did not think it meant anything.

I have also emailed them telling them that I did not join the club and I refused to pay for the DVD and would report them. I am angry that any company can get away with this. I did not confirm my club membership on their damned web site - just went there to get a customer service email address.

It is my understanding that if an unwarrented package is delivered to you - that it is the senders responsibility- Is this true? Also, from reading other people having experienced the same thing as I have - I think that a class action suit should filed- Where do I sign up - This is incomprehensible and they should not be allowed to do this.

Columbia House returns

#3Consumer Suggestion

I have been a Columbia House customer for about 6 years. Every now and again I forget to decline the selection and it gets sent to me. I simply mark through my address (make sure you scratch through the bar codes too) and put "Return to Sender" and stick it back in your mail box. They will credit your account.

Next, write them a letter and tell them the account was set up fraudulently. When you join their club, you get so many videos for a certain amount of money. You need to remind them that you have not requested any videos so that should be their cue that you didn't open the account. In the letter, request the account be cancelled. Mail the letter certified mail.

Each month, they will send you a reminder in the email about your monthly selection. While awaiting the account to be cancelled, make sure you decline whatever the selection is each month or you will get another one....and if you do, just do like the first one.
