I held a Providian VISA card for many years. A year ago Providian was sold to Columbus Bank/CompuCredit Corp. Ever since, I have been trying to pay off the card with few results. The average annual interest rate is 29.97 percent; I am billed annually for the card, even though I have attempted to unburden myself of it; additional charges are added to phone payments; they have no online access for payments; they were instructed to implement a monthly amount debit from my checking account to pay the account and they JUST notified me that this will start (supposedly) this month. It was supposed to start in April.

I have paid almost 4x the minimum monthly payment on this account for approximately one year and I still have a balance close to $900 remaining, mostly because of the OUTRAGEOUS interest rates, extra charges, billing for the card, etc., that they tack onto the account.

I want pressure put on this company for its outrageous practices. I did not ask for this card -- I was happy with my Providian VISA; now I feel as if I am in chains, unable to pay off the balance, no matter how much I pay each month.

Their customer service representatives don't ever seem to understand requests; they barely speak English and act as if it's a privilege to speak with them.
