My mom died in February of 2006 and I promptly notified the utility companies that she had died and requested final bills for the account. Comcast requested a copy of the death certificate, which I sent.

Comcast did not close the account and when I called, they said I needed to fax them another death certificate.

I faxed the death certificate and called later to make sure they got it. Comcast confirmed that they had received it and said they would be sending a final bill.

Comcast did not disconnect service for several months after my mom had died. I have been sent bills for as much as $250 for service and $50 for equipment. I have had to send 3 death certificates to Comcast to prove my mom was dead. I have spent month trying to get them to send me a final bill, which they did in August via a collections agency. For $160.

From February through August I was trying to close the account. I WANTED to send Comcast money. They refused to close the account and send me a final bill. I paid the $160 just to get the account closed. I hope Comcast is very proud of bilking my dead mom's estate out of an extra $127.
