ComED FRAUDULANT CHARGES APPEARING ON MY BILLS Chicago Illinois
I have been a victim of fraudulent charges that appear on my ComEd electric bill. I have disputed this matter on 3 occasions, requested validation of said debt three times, yet they don't seem to want to respond. I have even threatened to file a FDCPA violation against them for they have violated my rights as a consumer.
Basically, i resided with my ex boyfriend in the same apartment building where i reside now and apparently, they seem to think it is now ok to place his unpaid charges on my current electric bill. I have since then moved up into a bigger apartment, in the same building.
I was told by the representatives and supervisors that since i lived with him, I consumed the electricity and therefore should be held responsible for this bill. Yes, indeed i did benefit from the electric services, yet my name nor social security number never did appear on this bill. I do not understand why i should be held liable for this said debt.
To top things off, i was placed on a deferred payment arrangement without my knowledge. Therefore, i was only paying what my normal montly bill was, about $36.
Since then, my electric has been shut off and i am now liable, not only for his portion of this bill, but now a $250 deposit as well as disconnection fees. I am being treated very unfairly and indeed they are violating the law from FDCPA as well as my rights as a consumer.
Can you please help! I am left in the dark and unable to get any form of assistance.

ComEd isn't that shady.
They wouldn't be able to bill you if your name wasn't on the bill.
Good luck with that FDCPA, you would have to proove that the bill wasn't in your name.
