I am writing on behalf of a friend. He is 77 years old and blind. He has banked at Comerica for over 40 years. They have recently "changed" their rules in order to charge overdraft fees. Being blind, he has to rely on their online balance information. He has a good mind, and keeps a good tally in his head. The problem, he recently cancelled a vonage account, but they went ahead and charged him anyway. A problem, but not a big one. One overdraft charge. However, they paid that one and denied other small charges made prior to this one for a few dollars, and therefore charged seven, SEVEN, overdrafts. Previously, they never would allow withdrawals on a negative balance, but being on social security, they know he will get a deposit monthly, and you cannot convince me that is not an issue. Something needs to be done here. Anyone willing to picket the bank, please contact me, because this is flat out wrong.

Here's a way to make Comerica pay for their unethical behavior

I suggest that you have some friends sign the petition to stop Comerica from getting any of the $2.25 Billion in Federal Bailout money. That will get their attention fast! If you email me at bankingwhistleblower@inbox.com I will send you a copy of the petition. You can send or fax the completed petition directly to the treasury department address on the bottom of the petition.
Here is the petition language:

PROPOSED $2.25 BILLION BAILOUT OF COMERICA BANK.

We urge the U.S. Treasury Department to immediately stop the proposed $2.25 Billion taxpayer bailout of Comerica Bank. We believe this is an abusive violation of the rules and guidelines of the bailout program. The goal of the program is to provide money for lending not to provide money for fines, penalties and legal settlements. Because Comerica was guilty of illegal sales practices, the Michigan Attorney General forced Comerica to pay $1.60 Billion in restitution to customers that were cheated by Comerica sales personnel. Giving Comerica Bank a $2.25 Billion bailout would be force the same victims of Comerica's illegal and deceptive sales practices pay restitution money right back to the guilty party, Comerica Bank (see attached).

Please stop this assault against our values. Stop Comerica from manipulating the government into funding its illegal and unethical activities. Doing so only enables and perpetuates the inept and corrupt management executives at Comerica Bank. Giving money to pay legal settlements and cover up bad management behavior will not improve our economy. It will encourage more white collar crime and set a dangerous precedent that will harm citizens.

WE URGE YOU TO REJECT THE $2.25 BILLION BAILOUT OF COMERICA BANK

No fraud here...

I am sorry that he has to pay out so much money in fees, but this isn't fraud. At least not on the part of the bank.

If he continues to rely on his online banking page to know what his balance is, he is in for more overdrafts. There is most likely some kind of system to help him with this. Other blind people maintain their checking accounts without being charged overdraft fees.
