We are filing this report to help other crowd funders make a good decisions when it comes to hiring marketing agencies. We will gain nothing from this report. The money has been spent, our campaign has failed and we are no longer in business. This is merely informational so you don't get scammed like we did.

When we learned about crowdfunding and marketing, there were several agencies offering their services. After several communications with Roy Morejon (the owner of the agency) we made a decision to hire Command Partners to be our marketing agency. Roy had expressed (via phone & email) that our product is a really nice design and that the agency can raise well into the 6 figures funding goal. He also said that his agency has raised millions for other projects it is by far the most qualified to handle our campaign. I will say that Roy has done a very good job selling his agency to us. After I paid an initial $15K fee (April.07.16) for the agency and had to commit another 10K to advertising, things did not take off how i would have imagined. The agency had prepared a time table and deliverables which they did not stick to at all.

The preferred method of communications to the agency is what they call basecamp which is basically email only. The average wait time to hear back was 2-4 days. You cannot just give them a call.

For us the most important factor was to get some press in a major media outlet which I had discussed with Roy prior. Roy convinced me that the Agency had a huge media network they will work with and get some press for our product. We have not received one single press article in a major publication.

Here is what the agency did for us that I can verify we paid $15K for:

  • Created several Facebook ads + new landing page.
  • Posted regularly to our Facebook page.
  • Posted regularly on our Twitter account.
  • Created a basic Kickstarter page.
  • Submitted our product to GI Gadget.

We recommend getting these services from professionals that are available through sites like upwork.com or freelancer.com

We paid the Agency $15K as a service fee + about $5500 in advertising. We have raised to date $33K on Kickstarter and have one day left, you can draw your own conclusions. I understand that the Agency can not be held responsible for a product that failed.  Do we feel the agency has done everything it could to help us succeed ? Absolutely not.

Here is what we would have liked from a strategic partner like Command Partners:

  • Timely fulfillment of deliverables.
  • Regular updates on the project (We have no idea what they are doing, if anything at all).
  • A press article.
  • The ability to have a timely phone call without requesting it via email.
  • Guidance.
  • Regular communication!
  • Involvement of Roy the Owner or other competent members of the team not the account manager.

I have saved every communication between us and the agency including email, deliverables, files and notes. If you would like further details I will gladly share. We want to help everyone and preventing them form making the same mistake. As a creator you should put your money in success not waste it on a marketing agency.
