Contacted by telephone offering to collect on our toughest to collect debt and acted super confident that they could collect debts that no one else could. Gave them a couple of referrals on a limited time basis (I required them to modify their assignment agreement according to my terms).

They called back the following day claiming that they had successfully contacted debters that no one else could find. Debtors supposedly refused to pay. Commercial Investigations claimed to have done an asset search and found significant bank accounts and recommended suit.

This above is the hook, then they requested thousands of dollars in legal fees to be paid in advance. It was all non-sense, they had not reached anyone, nor did they find any assets.

When I told them that I was not interested in "advancing" them legal fees, the uneducated moron on the phone threatened to sue me.

Don't fall prey to their scheme!

I have a complaint about JSA here as well. It continues, still can't get the last 2 payments they received out of them. They told the BBB that the checks "bounced". Not true: I have the debtors bank statement to prove that the DEBITS were good. No matter HOW much you want your money, what these guys DO to collect it is just not right. They made a payment schedule agreement with the debtor, and then would Debit her account PRIOR to the agreed upon day: often putting her in arrears at her bank.

I have contacted the Ventura county CA DA's office with a formal complaint. I urge others to do the same. These guys are NO GOOD and deserve to be shut down forever.

Wouldn't a decent private investigator have served as well, without the legal staff they seem to have?

When you hire a PI to locate someone, you pay the fee and the PI provides a written report which would tell you where these folks are. Then you could decide whether or not to proceed with any collection attempts....
