I purchased a GPS system in the amount of 499.00.. I was not satisfied and returned the unit. The policy of compusa is to wait a few weeks if paid by check. This makes perfect sense.

The problem is that when I returned the product the restocking fee was taxed. I contacted the Texas state comptroller and there is a law that states specifically that restocking fees or not to be taxed.

When comfronting COMPUSA they state that it is the way there system calculates the refund. CompUSA of course has to pay the taxes collected to the state, so in the end it is the state that gets the money. There is a provision that allows the goernment to legally ripoff citizens. It's called tax collected in error. They do not owe refunds basically.

I have also found that the majority of these electronic stores do business the same way. This would easily equate to millions of dollars per year. I contest that this is not taxes collected in error but a systimic method of illegal taxation.
