I have ordered a CPU (Pentium III) from an outfit called "Computer Geeks". The price was right, $26.50 plus shipping. The catch was: The product was used, but since the company offers 30 day warranty I went ahead and ordered one anyway.

"Computer Geeks" have charged my credit card in ten seconds and have shipped the package also quickly. However, when I got the CPU it turned out to be totally dead.

That's where the problems started. After "Computer Geeks" already had my money, their attitude has changed 180 degrees. First they have refused to give me a refund, offering in-house credit or a replacement only. I told them no way: There's nothing else I need and I do not want another used, presumably defective unit.

Then "Computer Geeks" grudgingly agreed to a refund and issued an RMA. I have promptly sent back the defective CPU, tracing its delivery via UPS web site. "Computer Geeks" have received the package but did nothing - no refund.

After sending them another email (becoming increasingly hostile), "Computer Geeks" gave me a million excuses why there's a delay. Apparently they took me for someone too stupid to know how credit card transactions work - oops, incidentally I know very well how they work so I was able to debunk all their bull.

Finally a refund has arrived but it was way too short. Another email, another pile of (this time quite idiotic) "Computer Geeks" excuses from a woman the name of Nina. The bottom line is she has refused to refund the rest of the money I have paid for, period.

So now I am in process of filing complaints with the Federal Trade Commission, the California Attorney General, Better Business Bureau and dozens of online consumer protection sites.

Of course I am also filing a chargeback request with my credit card company.

Think twice about buying from these guys unless you want to take the risk of being ripped off like I was!
