Well, here we go, yet another research project and potential litigation. I get so tired of this stuff.
I engaged in a contract to purchase a modular home from Conseco Finance back in aug of 1996. At that time, the company was owned by Green Tree.

I'm at my desk looking over the original contract and it's simple interest terms trying to figure out what scheme they are going to come up with now. After two phone calls to verify an ending principal balance which I cannot match up with computer generated figures, I decided to research their history on line, and the first thing I come up with are this site and numerous complaints made by consumers like myself.

Conseco's records show a balance owed on my account of $34,675.63.
From all my documentation, and two computer generated loan calculators, the figure should be: $ 32,213.22, a difference of:
$2,462.41 (in thier favor). I could understand a small difference, but this is ridiculous. I have asked Conseco to mail me all available documents including payment history.

I have sent an email follow-up as well, and have heard nothing.
In both phone conversations, the attendants agreed that something looked "funny", but that it probably had to do with insurance. Awfully expensive insurance wouldn't you say?

Two thousand dollars may not sound like a lot of money to most folks, but on this type of a sale, for a modular home, it's nothing but a losing proposition that certainly doesn't need any help from rip-off "profesionals".

Thanks for the opportunity to vent, and wish me good luck.

Conseco Finance Payoff Discrepany RESOLVED!

Fri, December 07, 2001

I have been away on business for two weeks, and was thrilled to find out that by the time I had returned to my home a formal letter from Conseco was waiting for me in the mail.

Not only have I received an "updated" report showing the correct amount owed on the balance of this account (within a few dollars of my anticipated figures), but in addition, per my request a form showing all the interest I have paid.

I'm not exactly sure what to attribute this speedy success to, but at any rate, thanks to all involved. I certainly do not have time for lengthy quibbles.

Guess it's going to be a Merry Christmas after all.

Thanks!
