Recently, I agreed to purchase 5 magazines for 4 years for 49.99 a month for 12 months with Consumer Media Services. I gave them my debit card number believing this was a legitimate company; however, after doing a background check on the company I found out that they are scam artists.

I have already contacted my bank, however, they told me that because I authorized Consumer Media Services to charge my account every month, they cannot stop them from doing it unless they charge me for things I did not authorize OR I do not recieve any of the magazines I ordered.

I called the company from the number they called me on my cell phone and the representative named "Carlos" told me all I have to do is call the 800 number to cancel my order. From what I have learned, its simply not as easy as it sounds. I am not certain at this point what I am going to do. Basically I feel like an idiot for agreeing to anything sold over a phone.

Technically, they have not broken any part of our agreement yet, however, I have a feeling that once I attempt to cancel my agreement with Consumer Media, they will definately not cooperate and try to get as much out of me as possible.

If that happens, I will have to close my account; however, this may not solve all of my problems because they can still try to ruin my credit believing I owe them money. Catch 22

If anyone has successfully got out of this mess I would love to read about it. I only wish I would have done a background check before I agreed to anything.
