I received a notice from SMART Credit Mgmnt in Roswell, GA that they would no longer be servicing Arizona. (SMART is a credit counseling service I had used for about 4-5 years) During the transition to Consumer Alliance, SMART deducted one last payment from my account to distribute to my creditors. I found out from my creditors no monies were distributed.

I was also promised my "down" payment to be refunded as soon as I completed the program. I completed the program as agreed. However, I received no money. I tried contacting SMART NUMEROUS times via email and through the postal service; all mail was returned.

When I approaced Consumer Alliance about the transition and where my money was, they would ivade the question or ignore correspondence altogether. Comsumer Alliance had to know the reason why SMART was no longer accepting clients in this region, AND they also had to know where my money was and why.

As far as I am concerned, Consumer Alliance is just as guilty as SMART Credit Counseling. I am down nearly $1000 and it's been over a year without resolution. The GA Attorney General stated they have had numerous complaints of this nature about SMART and the only thing I could do is to seek legal representation. I thought stealing money was a crime. If I hired a lawyer, it would cost me more than what I am owed. Where is the justice?
