We entered a contest at a Bridal Show, a company called Contemporary Lifestyles called us. They also go by another name which is Royal Prestige. They had told us that we won a trip to vegas and wanted us to come down and get it. They also told us that we would have to sit and listen to them give a presentation on what they do.

Lorna and I agreed to go down there and get our trip. When we got down there on March 27/04 we listen to there presentation and we decided that we were not going to buy. The sales man Kirk Hofmann kept insisting that we buy the pots and pans that they are selling. Lorna and I were a little bit interested but we knew we couldn't afford them. We just wanted out trip to Vegas and our trip to Hawaii that we had won also. Kirk Hofmann pulled out the contract. He said that we could work out a payment plan. Lorna and I tried to look over the contract but as we were doing so Kirk was trying to get our attention off the contract by telling us that he would give us a free trip to the Dominican Republic if we signed the contract.

Lorna and I were not interested in another trip just to get pots and pans. Kirk kept insisting on this trip and kept telling us all the good stuff to do while we were on our trip and that everything is paid for and we didn't have to worry about anything except airfare. We again tried looking over the contract and again Kirk kept talking to us and distracting us from reading the contract. He kept bringing the focus back to the trip. Unfortunately Lorna and I did sign the contract, but we feel like we were bribed and signed under false pretenses. We feel that we were pressured into signing the contract.

The day after we had signed the contract we called Contemporary Lifestyles after realizing that we could not afford this. Lorna and I tried to cancel the contract because this is something we just don't want, or can afford. I talked to Kirk and he told me no, that we couldn't cancel the contract. Kirk never told us that we could even take our pots and pans home with us that they had to stay in storage until we paid the full price.

Lorna and I have been paying on something that we don't even have. Lorna and I have tried to make several attempts to contact Kirk. I tried talking to him again in April 2004 and again in June 2004. We were still not getting anywhere so I tried contacting Michelle Bailey who is the front office manager I believe. She told me she would not give us our money back that we have been paying. She also told me that she would not cancel the contract, and told me that we had to keep on paying but never offered the pots and pans to us. I contacted her again on Oct 13th or 14th 2004. I tried talking to her again and she still wouldn't cancel the contract.

We tried using our Vegas trip that they have given us. They told us to mail in the form 90 days ahead of time and we would be able to book the trip. I got a letter back in the mail stating that they were unable to accomadate us. We were very upset because we are paying for something that we are not even getting nor want and we aren't able to take any of the trips that we supposably won.

I talk to Michelle Baily on 12/13/04 in regards to a letter that they had sent us. In the letter it states that they will garnish our wages and take us to court. I told Michelle that what they are doing is wrong and that we are not paying anymore and we are not going to be taken advantage of. She told me she would note my account. We then received a call on Dec 24 2004 from collections saying that our account is past due.

These people are nothing but liars and con artist. They deserve to be shut down and have law suites brought against everybody in the company.

Did You Get Everything in Writing?

#2Consumer Suggestion

Mon, January 03, 2005

You need to take some responsibility for not reading the contract and not researching the company before you went to their presentation, but, let's face it, with the amount of complaints against this company on this site alone, we know who is ripping of consumers. If you have everything including logs of telephone conversations, contact the District Attorney's office in your state and the state where the company's home office is located. Contact the FTC and advise them that you were guaranteed trips that were never received and that you were not allowed to cancel your contract. If possible, each of you might file in small claims court for the value of the trip(s) you did not receive.
