Complaint Review: convergent

 I had been receiving calls from a collection co. on a 23 year old account. Yesterday I got a very impressive letter requiring payment of $11K on a $3K debt. I called the number and talked to a very aggressive agent who offered to settle for a little more that $2K. I in formed him that the debt had been written off/ discharged in 2001 there was no court judgement and even if it had been the 10 year statued of limitationshad long run out. I then informed him that I was an officer of the court private hired by dozens of attornies in my area to serve notice on collection accounts ECT. And, if they continued to try to collect on this account or report it to any credit bureua I would turn this over to one of my attornies for legal action in the highest extent. He admitted that the debt was to old to collect and that they would remove me from their records and no longer attempt to contact me. This company has come up with the perfect husstle that is legal but not inforcable if you are aware of your rights with-in the law I lived this issue 2 decades ago and now am working on another good credit rating. Had I not known my rights or the law I could have been sucked in by these vultures. Know the laws of statued of limitations for your state as it applies to past debt and then tell these bums to take a hike (In writting a must) Your past should stay in your past. Good Luck
