My son was denied his medicine for epilepsy and ended up having a seizure at the Cook County Courthouse. He ended up with a broken nose, stitches and blood stained clothing. We were told he wouldn't be coming home because he had a prior, which in fact he did not. It was a clerical error that wasn't discovered until 6 days later. While appearing in front of the judge, he was give. An IBond which means he is free to go. Yet the sheriff's department kept telling us he wasn't leaving. That he would spend the night in jail due to the prior that the judge never mentioned. He had the seizure at 3:30 and we were not notified by anyone at the courthouse. The phone rang at 5:45 and it was my son telling me he was at the hospital because of a seizure. The paramedics that brought him to St. Anthony's told the ER that he had the seizure outside the court house. Someone tell me... when given an IBond, are you allowed to walk out of the courthouse without signing the IBond? Yea... I didn't think so. We were told that he would be at the Cermak hospital over night due to his medical condition. Well, 30k later my sons face is finally back to normal. All I can say is the system is really screwed up and my son wouldn't have suffered this if he would have been given his medicine. It is his constitutional right!
