I received a letter on letterhead of COOPER STANDARD stating that I was a winner drawn from over 100,000 names. The lottery numbers were provided, where they came from...I do not know.

I proceeded to call the phone number that was provided for additional information knowing full well this was a scam. The contact name was Mrs. Stephanie Campbell. A female with heavy accent answered and I was asked for my name and put on hold for about 6 minutes. I was then told that I needed to call back. It seemed that my questioning the company name, her name, where my name was retieved from was unable to be answered by this "call center representative". When asked what company this was I was told "the company that is on the letter". Obviously they use multiple company names. The check enclosed was for $2475, of which $1750 needed to be paid to Western Union for taxes. The letter was signed by a David H. Sullivan -promotions manager. The check had an address of Auburn Indiana on it and was signed by an Allen J. Campbell, the bank name Lasalle Bank Midwest NA in Troy MI.

Sadly people do cash these checks or get involved with scams thinking it could be their lucky day. These scams can be stopped if the selling of names and addresses is more closely monitored and we were not subjected to every unsavory company in the name of free information.
