My warning goes to all who will travel to Hilton Head SC.  On Sept. 6th 2009 my wife and I purchased a timeshare from these people and trust us stay clear of them.  We went Coligny Square the day before and went to one of the info booths to get some info and were talked into a 90 minute presentation for the next day.  In exchange we would get a free cruise out of Harbour Town the next day.  Well the next morning we get to Coral Resorts and register and soon we meet what would be our salesman Mike Alligood.  Well next comes the spill and we are taken to the Island links resort to see the condo we would be using and a trip to the Weston Hotel to see the other facilities we would have access to.  After all this we go back and the sell starts.  Now I will tell you these people were never mean spirited or anything like that, but we would later find out they were not what they seemed.  First of all we bought a points timeshare worth 28800 points a year and were told that as long as we booked 45 days or less in advance we would never pay more than 9000 points per week.  Well come October we call RCI who manages the points for them to see what is available.  Well guess what, it turns out that Coral Resorts does not participate in the 9000 point program.  Now first let me say that this is not an RCI problem as they have been helpfull and are great to work with. It is a Coral Resorts problem.  RCI will tell you that the 9000 point program works, just not for Coral Resorts as Coral Resorts stated.  Turns out they have done this to many people and have also been turned into the BBB many times also.  When we tried to cancel are timeshare we got no response from them.  We went and filed a case with the BBB of Savannah GA but they are have no luck either.  These people are the worst kind of salesman in the industry and they are ruining the name of Hilton Head Island.  Our salesman was Mike Alligood and I can tell you he is a liar and good luck getting him to return calls.  The Verification Officer was Steve Deutsch and he is quite the Liar also.  Both of these men told us we could come and use the Island Links Resort for 9000 points at least a dozen times.  You see this is my problem is the 9000 point which is not used there and to stay there it would take 3 years of my points for one week.  So now we have to pay the triannual fee of over $900 for upkeep on a resort we will never be able to use.  If told the truth we would not have purchased this.  Why would we pay all this money for a resort we would never have the opportunity to stay at.  The contact lady at Coral Resorts is Lori Lucas and her number there is 866-610-4124 ext.264 but good luck in getting thru to her as you will only get a voicemail and it will not be returned.  This whole outfit should be put out of business but no matter who you call the Chamber of Commerce or anyone else they seem powerless to do anything.  Yea they will tell you we have heard the complaints but not much we can do.  I myself refuse to let these people get away with what they are doing and will fight them on this.  If anyone needs info or has had the same dealings as we did please contact me and we can share info.  To anyone else if you go to Hilton Head and it is a wonderfull place stay clear of any info booth and if you do, dont take the 90 min tour.

Coral Resorts makes good

Folks,

I had the same problems with Coral Resorts. However, I have good news. I worked w/ the SC Attorney General's office and the South Carolina Real Estate Commission to open a formal complaint. After a number of months of research and review, the SCREC contacted Coral Resorts and they agreed to offer us a full and complete refund of both the TimeShare purchase price and our Maintenance fees that we had paid. Based on this refund, and the dissolution of our contract, we are fully satisfied w/ the resolution that Coral Resorts has provided us.

Thanks,
mrjlturner

I have a similar story, but was taken while on vacation in Hilton Head.  I can tell you that the SC Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (Office of Investigation and Enforcement) has secured a lawyer and is currently investigating these sales practices and customer complaints thoroughly.  I spoke with their office today and am currently building my formal complaint to submit.  I would encourage you to visit their website and do the same!  They can be reached at

Thanks!

Ripped Off As Well

Your story sounds all too familiar. My husband and I fell for almost the same thing. Our incentive was something different but for the same reason. We purchased the timeshare almost 6 years ago and have never used it. We too were shown the Island Links condos and were told of many great things we would be getting. Well when it came time to book our vacation, guess what, they had no vacancies, plus they needed more money. So we went back to Hilton Head in May of 2010 and we were told that the package we purchased was a bronze package and was only available in Dec. Jan, and Feb. Well who wants to go to the beach in the winter? So they told us we could upgrade to a plantinum package which was good all year
round with no money out of pocket and we would just continue to pay our payments but have a better package. After about a month I called to again book our vacation and there were all  these fees we needed to pay and they also had nothing to offer in the areas we wanted to go.
So I have been on the phone countless times trying to get someone to talk to me and just like  you I leave message after message and get no return phone calls. So we are basically paying money to someone for a condo that we have never used and doesn't look like we will ever be able to use. I am in the process of filing complaints with several people including the South Carolina Department of Labor, I'm not sure if I wll get anywhere but we can't afford to keep  handing out money for nothing. Our last resort would be to just stop paying the fees but then you have a bad credit report. There is is so much more that I dont have room to type it. We need  help from anyone that can give it to us. We just want OUT!!

This is almost identical to what happened my husband & Iin Dec. '09. We haven't been able to use the worthless points they promised and now we were hit up with the astronomical maintenance fees. I am consideringa trip to Hilton Head, as I am thinking I need a local lawyer who has had dealings with them. If you have suggestions or advice, please let me know.
