Correctional Billing Services, a division of Evercom Systems, is gouging the family members of incarcerated individuals by charging outragous phone call tolls on calls made to Mothers and Fathers who are innocent of any crime but are being penalized as though they are.

This should be against the law, and I encourage everyone to do as I am and contact your elected officials, print and media reporters, news magazines and expose shows about this blatant rip off of people who are not charged or convicted of any crimes. People who only want to hear from those they still love, in spite of their past mistakes, and don't appreciate being penalized for doing so.

Other companies charging for phone calls seem to be able to make a profit doing so at a far less rate per minute than Correctional Billing Services. This is a clear cut case of ripping off innocent consumers if there ever was one. Let's let them know that this is not right.

Let's see some fairness from this company and an explanation of just how they think they can justify charging these outragous rates!

Further Confusion

#3Consumer Comment

Sun, May 20, 2007

Poor communication often leads to frustration. It would appear that Correctional Billing Services may have been bought out by Securis Technologies. I base this on calling to check my balance with Correctional Billing Services, and being informed by a recording that payments should be sent to Securis Technologies at the same P.O. Box in Mechanicsburg, PA used by Correctional Billing Services in the past.

We used to receive a phone message when our account balance dropped to certain levels, but have not received any such message lately. Perhaps the acquisition was made recently and their systems are under review and/or revision.
Prepare yourself for futher confusion and ongoing frustration. I'm still agog at the implication this service is in place to protect me from inmate's unwanted calls, and can't help but think it's more about "creative funding" for the facilities that require its use.

REPORT THE CORRECTIONAL FACILITY

#3Consumer Suggestion

Tue, April 24, 2007

I only have experience and knowledge with how this company works because i have many friends that travel in and out of correctional institutions facilitated with correctional billing services phones.

The charges are figured based on the jail/prison decisions, not that of correctional billing services. They charge a flat rate of $2.30 per call, no matter how long the call is. Any extra charge is that of the jail/prison. If you really are angered by the outrageous prices you or your friends/family have to pay, call up the facility and complain to them!

If enough people did, I'm sure something in prices would eventually change! Sorry if this info isn't really much help to anyone, just giving my imput on the situation, and how I think it should be correctly handled.
Thank you!
Amy
