Complaint Review: Correctional Billing Services (Evercom)

Correctional Billing Services (Evercom) Gouging customers Escanaba Michigan

My son was incarcerated in the Delta County Jail in Escanaba, Michigan and Evercom, an arm of Correctional Billing Services, was the sole provider of phone services. A single 15-minute phone call was $7.95. That is just highway robbery. Evercom or Correctional Billing services should be incarcerated for gouging customers like that. A 1-minute phone call was a minimum of $4.95 (that's the "connection" fee). Come on!!!! This is an absolute rip-off. Ridiculous.

I wish somebody could do something to alleviate this hardship on those that want to stay in touch with their loved ones. Yeah, he did the crime, and the time, but that should be punishment enough for him. No need to punish family members, too.

Being in prison does not mean is it okay to take advantage of the friends and families who are supporting them. Those in jail/prison have a better chance of turning their lives around if their life lines (support system) is not severed by a bunch of greedy opportunists who are making millions in profit off the backs on family members/friends.

I don't have a criminal record. Heck, I've never had a speeding ticket. I've worked since I was 13, own my own home, have a college degree, and guess what? I pay taxes too and there is a ton of crap programs out there I will never see any benefit from. Most people have no problem paying for the monitoring aspect of prison/jail phone calls and the cost of the actual call. However, that is not what is happening.

I am sorry that you have a loved one that is incarcerated. But you said he did the crime. Well unfortunately all tax payers are paying for his bed and breakfast (including you). I am not trying to be ugly but with the way things are going these days with prices evercom is just going with the flow of gas, electricity, property taxes, food taxes, banks failing, ect.... Hope he gets out soon and best of luck to him and your family.
