This entire school is one big rip off. Tuition is almost 17,000 dollars for 10 1/2 months of schooling. They also charge you 10 dollars an hour for every hour that you miss. Only here is the thing, after you get to the point where you should be expelled from the program (like the contract says) the owners keep every student in the program so that they can charge anywhere from 3000.00 dollars- 5000.00 dollars additional to each student.

Unlike most colleges with clean and safe campuses, this dingy downtown duluth location is crawling with Asbestos in the ceiling of every closest, and don't forget the gorgeous student lounge that leaks from the ceiling panels when it rains, and the disgusting fridge/frezzer combo that has never been cleaned out. Rip off does not even describe this place, aside from the teachers, you get used books, used kits and walk around a disgusting building that is a do-it yourself project gone bad. This is a clear example of private education having very low standards just to keep money rolling in.

First, on behalf of CCU, I would like to apologize for what appears to be a less than positive experience for you at our school.  I would encourage the author of this complaint to contact the school directly so that we may listen to your concerns and search for solutions in an effort to correct any shortcomings you experienced.

Second, some inaccurate information is contained in the complaint that deserves a better explanation.  CCU does not charge for every hour of absence.  In fact, CCU allows all students to miss 130 hours of scheduled time free of charge.  That is almost  an entire month of a one year program.  Only after a student exceeds 130 absence hours is a student then charged $10 per each additional hour of absence.  Most of our students (64%) incur less than $1000 of ot charges, 40% have none, and less than 10% of our students incur overtime charges in excess of $3000.

In most instances, these students have unique situations in their personal lives that led to the high number of absence hours.  After consultation with our financial aid department, most students realize it is in their best interest to complete the program and pay these additional charges rather than drop the program and have no diploma.

CCU is greatly concerned with the success of our students and believes policies like this helps troubled students find a way to complete their training and start paving their way to a successful career.

The asbestos accusation is completely false.  So is the used books and kits accusation.  Some students borrow used books until their financial arrangements are made to purchase new.  Occasionally, the student break room will experience some leakage during periods of heavy rain such as Duluth experienced this past June when many city residents also experienced similar problems in their homes.

CCU strives to deliver the highest quality education possible at a competitive price.  Some schools cost more, some cost less.  The schools that cost less also take longer to complete and thus limit the ability to enter the workforce as quickly as attending CCU.
