Im writing this to all that are thinking about taking there car to cottman transmission. Please look elsewhere before you make this drastic mistake. These guys are crooks and tear up your car to make money off of you. I can say this because I have experienced this first-hand.

The cottman transmission in Columbus, Mississippi is a prime example. I took my 92 honda accord in to be looked at and they purposely tore up parts of my car and ran a scam telling me that it was my transmission and that it needed to be rebuilt. Being young and not really knowing what was going on, I was forced in to the decision of having the transmission rebuilt due to the fact that they had already pulled it out and inspected it without proper authorization. These guys then went on to say that I had burned up 3 gears and that if the car left the premises, it would destroy other internal parts within the vehicle. I then agreed to let them rebuild my transmission or so I thought!!! After waiting more than a month to get my car and being quoted a price of $1,100.00 my car was not fixed and my bill came out to be $2,500.00 They then wanted me to bring the car back and stated that the computer(ecu)needed to be reset. This was not the case and nor did it solve the problem that I first had when I brought the car to these so-called specialist. I also came to find that cottman tore up my shifting mechanism in my car that ran from the transmission to the outer part of the car. I then told these guys that I would make sure that no one would ever bring there car back to this place and that they would be hearing from my attorney as soon as possible. I then proceded to take my car to the Honda dealer and they replaced the part that cottman tore up which cost another $350.00 I have receipts for all these expenses to vouch for this.

Cottman had also dented the hood of my car somehow and tore up my stereo system. The strange thing is the fact that no one seemed to know how it happened or when it happened. This was the worst nightmare come true I have ever had, and these guys need to pay for destroying peoples cars. The sad part about this entire situation is the fact that the only problem that my car had was the ECU.

This is the computer that controls the car and all of it's functions. I explained to cottman that this is what my Honda manual explained the problem to be, but they insisted that the transmission was at fault and stated that they were absolutely sure. I then had the Honda dealership to replace my ECU and this cost another $600.00 including labor. So instead of being out of $600.00 cottman has made me lose $3,450.00 due to their pursuit of taking advantage of honest individuals. To everyone that is associated with this organization, I hate all of you for what you have done to me and others across the country.

You guys are nothing but scam artist who prey on innocent people. I will continue to spread the word to everyone I come in contact with about cottman and how they operate. You tear up cars purposely to make money. I took my transmission and had it inspected by Honda and found out that cottman did not even rebuild my transmission. So my $300.00 dollar fee to have my transmission taken out and inspected cost me another $2,200.00 for work that had not been done to my car. To all of you at cottman, I will make it my mission to bring this situation to light. I have all receipts and documentation from your location in Columbus, Mississippi.

I also have facts stating that you guys did not rebuild anything on my transmission and estimates on how much damage you did to my vehicle, including my stereo system and other items on my car. Within the next month, the games will begin and you guys will be where you should. Out of Business!!! I also plan on getting the government involved in this. You guys will learn not to take advantage of people, especially those with military status.

I would not take a vehicle there ever. I'd just as soon abandon it. They tried to pull that trick with me. When I took my vehicle in, without looking at it they said my engine was shot. They said I didn't need to drive it anywhere and that they would put a new engine in. I quickly informed him he was an idiot, took my car to another business and they replaced a broken belt.

Earl - First, realize that not even God himself, (Allah, Jehova, etc.) can make Cottman Transmissions, LLC. let loose of a few thousand bucks to make good on a deal. The reason? It was never their intent to "serve" customers. They do require every one of the 300+ stores to send in 675 dollars every month for "advertising" or they will cut off their phones.

The best we can do is try to kill off some of this revenue stream to HQ by letting other franchisees and potential franchisees know about what is really going on.

Send letters to other Cottman owners in your area and to franchise resellers (search the Web). I found some of the owners in my area are quite pissed and not only will pay off my claim but form a franchisee association (union) to put pressure on HQ.

Also, keep sending copies to everyone you can think of with the goal of getting about 500 "sombody's" involved in your complaint. Scan all your docs online, too. This is much easier than faxing and handling paper. Just send 'em the link.
