How were you ripped off?

J.B.,

By your post it is obvious that you are unhappy and apparently have been dealt some rough cards, but how have you been ripped off? I realize the economy is bad, and you have lost a nice paying job, but how does this relieve you from paying your debts? Years ago, I overspent on the nice custom home and the luxury vehicles, and then had a change in employment that did not give me enough money to afford the things I had committed to. Fortunately we were able to sell the house and restructure our lives. I have since gotten back into a situation were I am able to make a substantial income. With that said, I am not running out and purchasing large ticket items that I can afford only while I am making large paychecks. I am only purchasing things that I would be able to afford if things took a turn for the worse. If everyone adjusted their thinking and lived like this, very few would be in the financial crisis that they are in.

If Country Wide and all of the other lending institutions let people not pay their mortgages because the economy was bad or the borrower has lost his or her job, then noone would pay. Actually, if they are forced to forclose on you, then you are the one ripping them off. You closed on a loan that you guaranteed to pay. It is not their fault if you agreed to the terms. You could have simply said, "No, I can not afford to do this", and walked away.

I realize this is an awful situation for you, and I am sorry that you are in it. You may even repost telling me I am insensitive or something of that nature, however I do not see how you have been ripped off since you mortgage company will not let you skip payments and make them up at a later time.
