On November 30, 2008 I assisted a family member pay off a debt with National Credit Works of NY.  I received a letter stating that the debt was "Settled in Full".

On 28 June 2011 (2 1/2) years later I received a call from a Larry Johnson representing County Filing Services and informing me I had a debt with a Credit Card Co, that was still open.  Mr. Johnson, then proceeded to tell me that if I did not pay the debt a Summons would be generated forcing me to go to court.

I tried to explain to Mr. Johnson that the debt was already paid and why was he asking for another payment?  He told me I had to fax a copy of the letter from NCW as an E-mail would not suffice. I contacted NCW and they were kind enough to supply me with the letter.

After he received the faxed letter from NCW he called and told me the debt was no longer open.

Actually Mr. Johnson never offered to negotiate the supposed debt.  He wanted the full amount immediately which is unlawful as a negotiated settlement has to be one of the options to the debtor.

I found Mr. Johnson to be rude, abrupt, arrogant and aggressive.

He uses tactics to scare unknowing individuals to pay up immediately eventhough they may have already paid in the past to prevent a Summons for them to appear.  I mentioned to him that if the Law firms his company does business with knew how he was harranguing people they would not be pleased.

These Collection Agencies, whatever they call their business are purchasing supposedly unpaid debts and trying to scare the supposed debtor into paying immediately.  They probably had already paid like I did but were accused of dodging their payments.

If you get a call from this Company tell them right away that you have the right to have in writing how much you supposedly owe and who the Creditor is.  That's one of the options you have.  Do not do anything until you receive the letter.

Since this situation impacted me personally I really believe the Authorities in Corona should look into this company and determine if their tactics are legal.  If not they should be shut down immediately.
