Complaint Review: Courthouse Acres

I was enlisted in the US Army and deployed to South Korea for a year in 2002-2003. I left my partner in the US with a Power of Attorney to rent or lease an appartment in my name. I only saw this appartment once, when I came back on leave in the middle of my tour and it was nothing to brag about. Defective doors, dirty carpets, the paint on the walls was half done and service calls came in always late.

My partner moved out the apt a few months later and left a forwarding address with the keys. They claim they never got this info, then did "maintenance" in the apartment that cost a whopping $1,200. Since they "didn't recieve any forwarding address" they decided to send the bill to the address my partner listed as previous home address, recieving no response (of course not, we don't live there!) instead of sending all this mail to MY address clearly listed on their copy of the power of attorney!

A year later, when I come back to the US, and start a new job, they somehow found out my newly opened bank acct info and put in a court order to freeze my funds!
Not only these people were negligent disclosing my information, I had to go to the courthouse to get a copy of that order, which was sent to that wrong address! This document had my social security number, bank information and all! I went to the apts to get a list of these "maintenance fees" and $900 out of those were for "repairs" with no specific details on whatever was broken that cost so much. Not only that, but they managed to get their court order through and retrieve $1500 out of my acct, to include attorney fees and late fees of all sort that wouldn't be there if they had sent these documents to the right address in the first place!!!

The appartment was in MY name and I'm having all this money garnished away without even recieving proper notice!
As if that was not bad enough, since I didn't know about the whole mess until my money was frozen, all the electronic payments and checks I wrote, bounced back and are still currently refected on several of my accounts which will not take personal checks from me anymore. I work as a contractor for the military, and they require for me to have a Secret Security Clearance to perform my job, the first thing they check is your credit! During this whole mess, my clearance was temporarily suspended and my job put in jeopardy! Need I say more? Stay out of Courthouse Apts. in Newport News!
