Jessica dilemma
This has been a crazy month for two parents of
Jessica was born on January 26th 2010 at six pds five oz. She has had a hard time eating and gaining weight sense the day she was born, she always made a loud clicking noise while trying to feed or suck on a pacifier. At her two week check up she was down to five pds eight oz.
They tried every kind of nipple available at the stores and none of those helped. They even took her too many doctors appts with the concern she wasnt gaining weight fast enough. They had a lot of different services to help them like Chippewa county health departments Jane Monroe and Karen Sinkus. They also had Jodi Rogers from msu breastfeeding peer counselor coming in and weighing her three times a week, her notes state her weight was slowly raising but she was not loosing weight. No one could figure out what was wrong with poor lil Jessica.
After all the attempts to help Jessica and they had exhausted all there options they took her to war memorial hospital and that when the trouble really began.
The hospital called in Dr. Robert Beckman to come and take a look at her as she is his patient. He stated he was going to admit her for a day or so to make sure she wasnt getting sick. He then filed a 3200 form stating to cps the child is being admitted today for failure to thrive as a result of not being fed adequately prior to today. She is presented to me today as emaciated and malnourished. He faxed it to dhs.
Over the next two weeks he placed a feeding tube down her nose because she was burning more calories than she was taking in. They would feed her 2 ounces every two hours. That would be approximately 48 ounces in a 24 hour period of time. When the average four month old only needs 30 ounces in a 24 hour period.
On March 9th 2010 a nurse from the ob found a heart murmur. The symptoms of a heart murmur in newborns and infants are difficulty feeding and failure to thrive are the main ones.
The parents brought that concern and the concern her right frontal lobe is swollen and that is not normal. It has been that way sense birth. He did not listen to these concerns and just blew the parents off.
They parents then called the child cardiologist in Ann arbor for a second opinion and made an appt. Dr. Beckman found out cancelled her appt. and said to her father if you dont trust me I wont trust you!
On March 22nd 2010 the parents and family members along with cps staff attended a tdm meeting to discuss placement of the child. By the end of the meeting it was decided to send her home with her father and terminate mothers parental rights due to a prior cps case. The director of cps stated if she was neglecting her first child what makes you believe she wont do it again. They arent even giving the mother a fair shot as she signed off her rights voluntarily.
Greg was supposed to do all the feedings and protect her by not letting the mother take care of her cause she is unable to care for any child. And he wasnt supposed to leave her alone with the child.
The hospital filed a false allegation to cps stating that
within hours of the meeting Greg was attempting to let rose finish the feeding despite her inability to do so and was going to leave her with her. That could not have happened as to the fact she didnt go to the hospital till that night and didnt even pick her up till the following morning.
The morning with Greg was at work a state police officer accompanied Alex Carley of Cps to hand me paperwork stating she was being taken from both of us. The social worker that was with them also from cps asked is her father going to hurt you because of this do you need the police officer to protect you are you ok do you need someone to talk to? Thats bull crap would you be ok if that happened to you.
At the preliminary hearing Alex Carley to both attorneys that the mother cant have visits because her rights are being signed off but the judge did grant visitation to both parents.
The fathers attorney gave him in option. Choose either your fiance or your daughter. She also told him they would use something big from the last case against her this time and that is illegal.
