Hi, my name is Naicy****and i am a victim of the website (craigslist) or better yet, i got scammed. I thought this website was a 100% reputable and to my bad fortune it was not. I went on this site with the intention to buy a car, searching through a list of cars i came across a really nice car for and unbelievable price. The guy selling the car claimed to be a bailiff from Williamsburg, VA which of course he wasn't. Everything seemed so legitimate that it never crossed my mind that it was a scheme. As it turned out i sent him the money ($2,900) to London, England and i never received the car. I reported this to craigslist and the guy is still selling the car on their page. I filed a police report but it seems that they cannot help me any further. This has never happened to me before and i dont know what else to do. Can someone please HELP me in this situation?

my cell number is (((redacted))) you can call anytime, any day.

this is the site where is selling the car:

My name is James White and I am a bailiff from Williamsburg, VA. The original owner was unable to pay the car in full and now the bank has to sell the car.

The price listed on the online ad is the remaining amount the owner owns the bank. Car description:

Tell me how your comment of "you deserve to get ripped off" helps anyone but you feel good?

You are so rude.  Folks like you should not be able to make posts!  I feel very sorry for the Gal who got ripped off.  She made a mistake, and unfortunately lost $2900.  I dont think very many of use could afford to lose that amnt of money.  Someday you are going to make a mistake (actually you already did by making this post) and you will need help.  Karma is a tough one, and trust me you will get yours someday when this comes back and bites you....hopefully really hard!

NANCY:

You did not think when you read this ad, and sent the guy 2900 for a 2007 Honda.  The KBB for a car, this clean, and and low miles like this one would be considerably higher.  (some 10000.00).

Why did you fall for this?  I will tell you why, you thought his misfortune would be your gain.

you get what you pay for.... he he he ha ha ha h*o h*o h*o.

I was on craigslist looking for a car, and any time I saw a car with only email to contact the buyer, i ran away.  I wanted to go look at the car at the buyer's home, or place of business.

If the phone number did not match any  of the area code's in the city where I live, i did not call the seller.

I found a very clean, nice car on craigslist, I went to look at the car, and I even took the car to a independent mechanic.  (I spent 100.00 for a comprehensive inspection).

The car checked out.  So dont blame Craigslist for your own ignorance.

Maybe you should go back to high school, and learn some common sense.

Oh my gosh! This is completely addressed in Craigslist's user policy. It is unadvised to send money or recieve money through check, money order and so on. Also, you never want to buy anything you can not see in person! Let a lone send money overseas for something that is said to be in the US. You have to be very careful when money is involved.. You can't blame Craigslist for your mistake, I'm sorry you are out that much money, but maybe tis will teach you to read the fine print and also have better communication with a potential seller or buyer. Also, most people who sell on Craigslist use a "reply" system through the website or a phone number instead of their personal email. Nor are they in any way connected to Ebay or Ebay motors. It is just like the classified section of the newspaper! I hope you're more careful next time, and I doubt the police can do anything. You can't go after Craigslist, you'd need the info of person who scammed you.

First of all...you can not blame Craigslist for this...for as soon as you go to the car and truck classifieds for sale listings..it says right on top....(this is a screen shot and you can click on any of the links)..

[ OFFERS TO SHIP CARS ARE 100% FRAUDULENT ] [ ALERT - offers to ship cars/trucks are fraudulent ] [ avoid recalled items ] [ partial list of prohibited items ] [ dial 2-1-1 for social services ] [ AVOIDING SCAMS & FRAUD ] [ PERSONAL SAFETY TIPS ] [ craigslist {tv} ] [ unofficial flagging faq ] [ craigslist blog ] [ success story? ]

What was it about 100% FRAUDULANT (which means EACH and EVERY time in clear English) that you did not understand?

Next..Craigslist has NOTHING to do with eBay motors. eBay motors distances themselves  as far from Craigslist as possible. How the buyer protection from eBay works..is you must actually purchase the vehicle from the eBay website. Otherwise, the scammers are simply using the trusted eBay name and pasting the logo to make suckering the victim that much easier.

Now it is my turn to ask a question. What were you thinking??????
