Last summer I ordered more than $2000 worth of furniture and replacement cushion covers from CrateFurniture.com. At that time, I was told that shipping would be in the first week of October 2007. In the beginning of August, my credit card was charged. I had successfully ordered cushion covers and several beds from the company in the past, and I was aware that there was a long lead time because the cushions covers were essentially custom-made.

I have been calling since mid-October, and only get the recordings for both ordering and customer service. I would leave a message, and a few days after I call I would receive a recorded message by telephone explaining that they were having problems with one of their major suppliers, and that it might take up to 90 days to resolve. They also indicated I could cancel my order by calling and leaving a message.

I tried leaving a message asking that someone call me back. I assumed that I wouldn't need to cancel the entire order, if for example, their furniture supplier was causing them trouble. I just kept getting the same recorded call. Fortunately, I called Mastercard and disputed the charge. I was given a provisional credit while Mastercard investigates. It looks like the company has gotten into trouble, and perhaps is unable to dig themselves out of a hole.

I suspect that this website may be showing only the tip of the iceberg. This is really unfortunate, since in the past, their customer service was good, and I was very happy with their product. What I find unfair is that their website remains up (i.e they apparently have money to pay whomeover hosts and maintains it), yet there is no mention of delays on the website.

Jess Crate has absolutely nothing to do with CrateFurniture

As a representative for Jess Crate, and after receiving numerous phone calls about orders never received, I want to set the record straight. We are not in any way connected to cratefurniture.com. About a year ago, cratefurniture.com was purchasing its crate furniture from our company, hence the reason our pictures are the same. We have completely stopped supplying cratefurniture.com due to numerous overdue and unpaid invoices.
Jess Crate is a family owned business and a very reputable company, which has been in business for over 26 years. All of our furniture is manufactured at our plant in Mount Gilead, North Carolina. Our sales office is located in Philadelphia. We have e-mail, which is checked daily, and our sales office is open from 9-5 est Monday thru Friday, and 10-4 on Saturdays. Our sales associates, not an automated answering service, can be reached at any time during business hours. If you have any questions regarding Jess Crate Furniture, please feel free to contact us at (215) 625-3600 or (800) 220-JESS.

Crate Furniture.com and JessCrate.com.....Are they the same?

#5Author of original report

I recently "googled" the term "crate furniture" and I found something I had not seen before. A company named "JessCrate.com" is doing business. My browser tells me that it was created (or last modified in 2007). What is curious is that the merchandise, the pricing, and even the layout of the pages looks just a little too similar to our friends at CrateFurniture.com. Perhaps having not followed through with clients under this name, the owner(s) have simply set up a new operation under a different name. Just like CrateFurniture, they do not have a means of ordering online (which would enable you to generate and keep a copy of an order form), but asks you to call a toll-free number. Also interesting, is that JessCrate.com does not list where it is physically located.

Buyer Beware!
