Identical experience to Stephanie from Tacoma, Wa. I also received a harrassing call on a Sunday referring to a missed auto insurance payment and subsequent cancellation of that insurance, which caused me a problem with my California vehicle registration; this is peculiar because my insurance payments are automatically deducted from my bank account.

The Credit Collection Services letter sent to me referred to 'Specialty Risk Insurance Company' for my 'missed payment' , and that I owed them $173.30, but I've never had such insurance by that company name. I'm insured with Progressive, exactly like Stephanie, who never informed me of non-payment nor cancellation.

I've since reinsured my vehicle with Progressive, and would expect them to require me to settle any back payment that I owed as part of re-establishing insurance with them, but got no statement or evidence of such a request!

When I explained to the rude Credit Collection Services' phone caller that I'm up to date with a new policy, he stated that that would not remove the old debt. I think he's bluffing (lying)! This whole episode stinks! I will complain to Progressive. This scam (or at best, very shoddy communication) should be harmful to Progressive's reputation. If they do not give me satisfaction without a runaround, I will drop them and go with another insurer. Meanwhile, I may need assistance with protecting my credit.
