A relative purchased a Cricket phone for me as a birthday present as I had cancelled my service with Sprint because I was tired of paying extra for going over my minutes and because this was a "prepaid" plan with unlimited minutes and free texting it would help my budget. My due date was the 18th, and had been able to pay the bill until September when I was called out to go to Texas and Louisiana to help with the hurricanes (I work for an insurance company) and didn't pay my bill until I returned home on October 1st and paid my Cricket bill.

I assumed that because it is a pre-paid service, not a billed service that I would get credit for the time I didn't have service---besides they didn't have service where I was so I couldn't have called anyway---my service was suspended on October 19th or 20th. I called customer service to inquire and their response was that because I didn't call to notify them I would be out of town I would not only have to pay for the entire amount due but would also have to pay a $15 reinstatement fee, and would not get any credit from the 18th thru the 1st. This is not a pre-pay plan. This is a total RIPOFF

Your complaint was NOT a rip-off....

The reason why I say that is because of one major thing: you KNEW your due date was on the 18th.

If you were NOT going to use the service for up to 2 weeks, you should have called Cricket and let them know so they could have suspended your service for you (which they could have done). As for tracking calls, they don't do so because the service is based on unlimited minutes. The reps at the call center can't even see the calls within the systems that they view your account with.

Did Cricket rip you off? No. Did you rip yourself off? Yes. Just because you don't plan to use a service for a while doesn't mean that you simply don't pay your bill. Does your cable/satellite company allow you to not pay for their service without telling them why? I don't think so. No one person is assigned to make sure you're using your phone or not.
