Cross Country Auto Transport ripoff lies scam fraud Altamonte Springs Florida
BEWARE of Cross Country Auto Transport. They are liars and cheats. I spoke with several of the people who work for this Transportation Company. They are not a true transport company. They are a BROKER. I was promised mesh sides on the trailer and drip pans protesting my car from overhead vehicles.
Oh, and this would be handled directly by them because this move was in their regular route. Another carrier showed up with a truck and a flat bed trailer. They are not affiliated with Cross Country Auto Transport in any way. No mesh sides, No anything. I refused to have the guy who showed up take the car and required a date for Cross Country Auto Transport to pick up the car.
They came up with some lame excuse that the truck was broke down and would not be able to arrive for a month or two. Beware of these people. They aren't even responsible for shipping of your vehicle the carrier is the responsible party.

It's a good thing you refused to let them take your car, it would be gone!

Good choice!
Auto transporters seem to have the same level of corruption as household movers, which is HUGE! (check out the "moving" section of this site for other horror stories) Good tips are to first look up their DOT number, which we know is bogus, ask if you can come into their home office (even though you may not live there, ask, if they say no, run away). Find out if they are affiliated with any household moving company, and look up that company's track record. How long have they been in business under that name? Most important question, "are you a broker, or the mover?" If they are a broker and say they're the mover, they have violated federal law.
How did you find this company? Internet? Call a company in the phone book. Even though they may be more expensive, at least you'll be dealing with someone in your own area, and it's harder to cheat someone who can camp out at your office daily.
You should contact the DOT to lodge a complaint about the company Even though they didn't actually take your car, their business practices are VERY suspect.

For whatever reasons, only the government knows, SAFERSYS doesn't have in their database a lot of information they should. If you go to an offshoot URL - http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/Home_Files/li_search.htm - you'll be able to find all the details about Cross Country.
Just type in their MC number - 465987 and it'll tell you all about them. They've been legally in business for a whopping 2 MONTHS. Their slick website at www.auto-move.com would have you believing they've been in this business for years as seasoned veterans, if you don't do your homework on them. Auto shipping companies go in and out of business on a weekly basis, so let this information serve as a wake up call about these nubies.

Most interesting is the MC Number they advertise on their website. According to safersys.org, it does not exsist! Even more interesting, If you look up Cross Country Auto Transport, the only one listed on the safersys.org site is in Maryland, not Florida. Whenever Booking a Car for Transport, make sure they are legit by checking www.safersys.org. This site will give you the info on the company as well as their safety record.
No records matching MC/MX Number = 465987 were found in the SAFER database.
