I recently got my self into a financial mess-lost my job and am only able to pay my rent-barely. I was on the road to better credit after ruining it when I was younger but unfortunatly this set me back majorly.

Cross Country is one of my creditors I am sad to say. They call at least 10 times a day, Monday thru Sunday from 8:00am-9:00pm. I did try to speak with them reasonably in the beginning. I had every intention of getting this taken care off. They tried to presure me to do a check by phone and I refused but said they can call me or I would call them in 3 days (I was expecting my 401k pay out) and I would pay them a good chunk-they kept pressuring.

I stuck to my guns and was not comfortable in writing them a bad check which is what it would be if I gave it to them at the moment (after reading this website I am positive they would not have held it as they claimed but would cash it right away) The woman then said if she wanted to she could set up a debit from my checking anyway because they have my account info.

At this point a man clicked on the line without warning and starting yelling that I "needed to pay my bills" and that I was a "loser"I tried to stay calm but I eventually hung up.I am now in the process of going through a consumer credit agency which I did before. i just feel it's my only way out other than bankruptcy

My questions are: Isn't this harrassment? Can they legally call and threaten you 10 times a day? If it was an average person then couldn't a restraining order stop it? I really just want this to stop.

I am trying to get back on my feet. I realize I owe a portion of the debt and plan on making good on it(the rest is their DAILY FEES, lost card charge, charges for making payments by phone) The stress is killing me. I have anxiety about answering the phone never knowing if the person on the other end is going to be hostile. I wonder if that isn't payment enough for them knowing that somedays I don't want to go on and feel like I can't take anymore. Isn't that their goal?
