I applied for a credit card through them via the internet and requested the disability insurance, thank god i did that i thought until i became disabled. i filed a claim with the insurance company for my credit card. Then all of a sudden cross country bank put me in collections and started making harrassing phone calls

i informed them that insurance company needed information from them so they could payoff my credit card balance. They refuse to cooperate saying that they did'nt want the insurance company to pay they wanted me to pay.

I instructed them to send the information that was needed. They eventually did but continued with the harrassment even though the insurance company paid the claim they were'nt satisfied they are still trying to collect even though the credit card account is closed they have attached themselves to my credit.

And now they hare doing the same thing to my 21 year old son

please help

WHY a credit card if he couldn't afford

#6Consumer Comment

Why did your son get a credit card if he couldn't afford the monthly payment? Why is he late on his payment? Why didn't he contact the bank when the he realized he couldn't make the payment?

These are just some of the questions , I'm sure you know, that the collectors will ask. If you are civil and respectful to the people who call then this will reflect in the way you are treated by the reps. If you are a jerk and treat these people like telemarketers then you will tormented and harrassed. It's human instict to act out against those who treat you unkind. So if they call remember they are trying to offer you a way out of the debt not trying to sell you something you don't want.

Also if you are in the collections department then that means it is time for you to rectify the situation; the ball is in your court. The bank held up there end of the deal by giving you revolving credit on good faith. They thought you would pay as stipulated in the contract you signed.

RREMEMBER THAT IF YOU DO NOT PAY YOUR BILL IN THE TIME ALLOWED THEN YOU ARE A LIABILITY NOT AN ASSET

SHARON

YES I AM SHURE CROSS COUNTRY BANK IS CALLING THE 21 YEAR OLD SON. DID THE SON FALL BEHIND ON HIS PYMNTS. IS THE SON DISABLED IN SOME WAY, THESE QUESTIONS WERE NEITHER ASKED NOR ANSWERD.

I BELLIVE IF YOU USE A CREDIT CARD YOU ARE OBLIGED TO PAY THE BILL. UNFOURTANTLY NOT MANY PEOPLE DO. THATS WHY BANKS SUCH AS CROSS COUNTRY SUFFER LOSSES OF 60 YO 75 MILLION A MONTH.

READING IS FUNDAMENTAL

This is to Julia:

From reading your response to Lauren, it seems as
if you didn't read her letter closely. Lauren
did say that the insurance company paid the
amount and the account was closed.

So, it stands to reason that Lauren hasn't been charging any items on this account. She did say that Cross Country Bank is doing the same thing to her son.

Why would this bank continue to harrass this
person for a paid off and closed account? So
Julia, I truly believe you either work with CCB or
one of their sister companies. Why else would you
overlook the facts mentioned in Lauren's letter.

I may not have the financial background that you
supposedly have, but there's one thing that I can
do, and that is READ!!! AND READ ALL THE FACTS!!!

ITEMS NEEDED FOR CLAIM YOU HAVE TO PROVIDE

I have just read your complaint. I do understand the situation you are in. I used to be a sales agent for credit life, disability and unemployment insurance. I know the industry quite well.

First of all the bank has an agreement with the insurance company to act as a billing partner for the insurance. You are offered the insurance usually only on the initial application and you cant ask to sign up for it by your own accord. You have to be directly soliciated for it. The banks only responsibility is to collect the money you pay each month and forward to the insurance company.

The insurance company should have sent you a welcome packet about 2 weeks after you requested the insurance with detailed instructions regarding your benefits and how to request claim forms. Now some larger banks provide their own insurance and keep the money. I know Cross Country Bank uses American General Insurance company.

When you become disabled you are to contact the insurance company immediately and inform them of such. They should have sent you a claim form with a request for medical certification of your disability. Also, they should have told you to send in your statments for each month you are claiming. If you didnt keep your statments call the bank and make sure you tell them the statements are for the insurance or they may charge you a copying fee. Get them to the insurance agency as soon as possible.

See, this procedure takes time, so, you are still responsible for making payments on your account until the insurance company starts making the payments. Now, remember, the insurance will only cover the balance on your account at the time you submit your claim. They will not cover any additonal charges you make or incur to the account. That includes late fees and over the limit fees.

It is not your fault you became disabled, neither, is it, the lending banks fault. That is why you are offered the insurance when you first get the card. You, however, are still responsible for making the payments until the insurance agency begins making your payments. I hope this clarifies the issue.
