Cross Country Home Services "Residential Protection Plan" home warrenty program is a waste of money. My mortgage company recommended this plan to me and, on the surface, it looks like a good deal. You only pay $39.95 a month and in the event that a major system or appliance breaks down, Cross Country pays for its repair or replacement.

Wrong. I have been faithfully paying my $39.95 a month for years but when my furnace needed replacing, Cross Country didn't hold up their end of the bargain. Not only were they a major headache to deal with, but they only ended up paying a fraction of what they said they would.

For starters, it was like pulling teeth trying to get someone out here to verify my claim. My furnace was legitimately dead but they still gave me the run around for days sending different people, at my expense, to tell me what I already knew. I should also add that I had tried to file this same claim with them over a year ago but they said my furnace wasn't 'dead enough.' So after another very cold winter and hundreds of dollars in additional heating costs to run a 1% efficient furnace, I tried again this fall.

Finally, someone from one of Cross Country's approved companies came out and verified that my furnace definitely needed replacing and was a major fire hazard. But, yet again, Cross Country tried to talk their way out of having to pay up. They debated with their own service guy and even he got frustrated with their rudeness and their shady business practices.

So again, after many more phone calls and headaches, Cross Country finally agrees to some reimusment. But only on their terms, with their people, but with my money. They wouldn't even give me back half of what I had given them over the years and I still didn't get the repairs done that their own service guy said I needed.

Cross Country is clearly just out for money and doesn't care about providing quality service. Had I just saved the $39.95 a month and put it in a bank account, I would have had more money to pay for the furnace than they gave me. In the end, after much unnecessary struggle, I was out over $1500 of my own money and still had to pay an additional $700 to get my furnace fixed. Cross Country Home Services is a waste of money. Do yourself a favor and just keep your money in the bank. Nothing is worth dealing with these folks.
