Cross Country Moving & Storage This company will rip you off and threaten to hold your belongings Kensington Maryland
This company provided my wife with an oral estimate of $632 to move a 4-bedroom house with garage approximately 88 miles. They said that they would provide a written estimate via email but never sent it, even after a second phone call to ask for it.
The moving crew arrived an hour behind schedule with 3 people that spoke little to no English. They took 7 hours to move the items into the truck because they couldn't understand what my wife was telling them.
During the move, the moving van was not secured correctly, rolled down my mother-in-law's driveway, across a public roadway and into my sister-in-law's yard, damaging items in the truck and a tree in the yard!
After putting the items in the truck, they drove very slowly, taking 2 1/2 hours to drive to the storage area. That's when the real craziness started!
They told my wife that the bill for services was $2,309, almost 4 times the estimated amount! When the entire bill couldn't be paid, they threatened to store the property at an unknown location. My wife finally contacted our local police department.
When the sheriff arrived, he discovered not only was the driver suspended, but there were safety violations on the truck. The driver was issued $3,000 in fines.
We later found on the contract (which they only gave my wife after the sheriff asked for it) that they charged us $1,089 for packing materials that they never used!
They finally dropped off the furniture at the storage area and I am in the process of either suing or arbitrating with the company. These people will rip you off and are very unlikely to try and work something out with you.
