  • Attention: If you are ever in need of an engine rebuild or performance motor for your car, truck or boat, I will adamantly forewarn you to never do business with Crosstown Engine Re-builders located on Musgrave Street in Toronto!!!

In the summer of 2012, I placed my trust into this engine rebuilding company to build a performance small block V-8 engine for my Chevy truck and after paying them an exorbitant sum of money, I have nothing to show for it except for a problematic, under-powered, virtually stock motor masqueraded with chrome parts to appear otherwise.

In conjunction with clearly paying for something I did not receive, the engine itself exhibits many technical flaws such as oil leaks do to overly high pressure, coolant leaks, sputtering, backfire just to name a few. The engine was also so poorly tuned, the vehicle will not pass an emissions test to this very day. They also stuffed an oversized radiator into the motor cradle securing it with household grade wood screws through the now damaged radiator shroud. They were also reluctant to change the fuel filter, along with conveniently forgetting to install the new ignition coil and routed the spark plug wires an eighth of an inch away from the exhaust headers! The work invoice they'd concocted at end of it all was so incredibly vague in description, it didn't even provide a formal itemized cost breakdown, just an exorbitantly large cost figure at the bottom of the invoice.

Mr Jim Mangov, the current owner of the shop who I regard as a con-man, a liar, a thief and an over privileged punk, is currently running the business since inheriting it from his father. Jim is a real pro at flapping his mouth at incredibly high RPM's to deceive his customers into believing he is a performance engine builder when in reality as I've discovered first hand, he know's very little about performance engine building and would sooner rip you off then deliver a quality product. Unfortunately I fell victim to his deceptive sales tactics. What Crosstown guarantee and what is delivered after being paid in full, are two very different things; they do not stand behind their warranty either. What a true disgrace to the engine building industry they are.

For all the 'hot-rodders' in search of the ultimate performance engine builder for your muscle car or boat, stay well away from these grease balls if you know what's good for you! There are plenty of reputable engine rebuilding shops out there who are honest, so I encourage you to do your research and never do business with these crooks if you know what's good for you.

Crosstown engines to this very day, refuse to admit any liability for their sub-standard workmanship; their business tactics are shameful and they won't think twice about stealing your hard earned money.

Please pay no attention to the recently posted 5 star review on 'Yelp' mentioning a 'Trailblazer SS' as it is nothing more than a fairy tale dreamed up by Crosstown Engines in an effort to combat honest reviews such as mine. They will always remain a one star rated company in my view.

Stay away from these crooks, they are scum!

A message of apology to Crosstown Engines

#3Author of original report

Fri, February 14, 2014

I want to send an honest message of apology to the owner of Crosstown Engine Rebuilders, MR. Jim Mangov, in a sincere effort to neautralize some of the harsh, perhaps unjustified rhetoric mentioned within my initial review of this company.

With yesterday now behind us, I want to make it known that it was indecent to have instituted such harsh remarks about this company and its owner.

I have chosen to forgive and forget any discrepancies which arose from the past and no longer harbor any grudges towards this company.

In closing, Mr. Mangov you have my sincere apologies for previously commenting on your company in such a distasteful manor and do hope my genuine apology is well received.

I was angry at the time and simply venting. Crosstown treated me fair and just and I have no problem with the owners or the work they performed.

This is an update pertaining to my previous review about 'Crosstown Engine Rebuilders' in Toronto.

The situation has been resolved within small claims court recently during the month of January 2014 and both parties are mutually content with the resolution. The owner of the shop conducted himself in a diplomatic manor and was open to negotiation; this was appreciated.
