I took my daughter to sign up from gym membership. She is a young adult and I wanted to make sure she understands what she is signing up for. The crunch fitness rep painted a pretty picture of all it had to offer. We agreed with the $10 a month membership and once a year $40. Automatically deduction from bank only. Numerous times the rep wanted to "sell" training sessions but numerous time we refused. Come to find out after signing the contract, it stated that she did wanted the training sessions. Unbeknownst to her of coarse. The training sessions were for $140 a month. She never took the sessions, never asked for them. For three months they deducted $140 automatically. Then she recieves a text from them asking why she hasn't use the sessions. Puzzled, she checks her bank statements and low and behold they did infact took a total of $420. She goes to the gym and tries to explain the misunderstanding and they just kept saying well " you sign the contract". Yeah she did but under false pretences because she kept refusing the training sessions over and over. Then we try to get her money back and they gave us the runaround. We must have spoken to 5 different reps claiming they were managers. So we asked to speak to a higher manager. Joe kyrsik. Apparently he is the area manager for different crunch fitness locations and doesn't have a direct number to contact him. He finally calls me after several weeks, explaind the situation, says he'll do his best and see what he comes up with.

A week goes by, calls and leaves a message on my phone saying that he is only going to refund me a portion as a courtesy customer relations as he called it. Saddened and didn't understand why it wouldn't be for the full amount, we still agreed. He stated on the message which I still have, that it will take up to 5-7 business days to credit $280. It has been 10 business days and no credit. Again, trying to reach him is impossible, left several messages. Still haven't heard from him. All the meanwhile the stress levels on both my daughter and I are outrageous because not only she went from having very little money from earnings from a seasonal part time job, she missed out on summer school she was planning to go to (for financial reasons) sleepless nights, loss of appetite, anxiety episodes. She wants to cancel both the membership plus the bank automatic deductions altogether, but is afraid that if she does, when the gym really tries to refund if they are, they won't be able to because the account will be closed. Wish I knew what to do next if anything.
