We purchased a 1997 Dodge Dakota sport from them in 1997. At this time we purchased an extended warranty also. 5 years or 100,000 miles bumper to bumper coverage. Plus 24 hour nationwide road assistance, towing and hotel rental.

Last week my truck broke down 100 miles from my home town and the town in which Cumberland Dodge is located. I had the truck towed to the nearest Dodge dealership in the knoxville vacinity. Now Cumberland Dodge has given us these options when it comes to having the truck fixed. We are only at 51,000 miles and it has not been 5 years, so it should be totally covered.
1. Pay towing of $55.00 to Sexton Auto Group(dealership outside of Knoxville), plus pay an additional tow charge of $150.00 to $200.00 to have the pickup towed to Cumberland Dodge in Cookeville, TN. They will only reimburse us $35.00 for towing. Then they will repair the truck under the warranty.
2. Have the pickup fixed at Sexton Auto, pay $55.00 for towing and a $100.00 deductable on the repairs. Sexton knows of Cumberland Dodge's reputation and does not trust them to pay the bill. So we have to personally pay for the repairs, approximately $1000.00 and then try and get this money back from Cumberland Dodge.

Other problems with dealership:
1. Interest Rate - when we purchased the truck they did not tell us the interest rate till we where signing the papers. It is 18%. They told us and I quote" if we paid the loan on time for 6 months Chrysler would lower our interest rate". Chrysler has nothing to do with setting the interest rates on any loan, the dealership sets the rate. So we never could get the interest rate lowered.
2. Fibration in back end of truck - this has been there since we purchased the pickup. Cumberland Dodge has never been able to correct this problem. We have put 6 sets of tires on this pickup and it only has 51,000 miles on it. Chrysler only covered one set of tires. Refused to do anything further to correct the problem.
3. Emergency Brake release - this does not release right and the brake light will stay on in the dash. This they also could not fix.
4. Blinkers - they work sometimes and then sometimes they don't. Another problem that they could never find the cause of or correct.

Address of Dealership:
Cumberland Dodge
1540 Interstate Drive
Cookeville, TN 38501
931-526-9607
They are a big dealership and handle many other makes of vechicles.

False & Misleading Statements about Cumberland

As stated in the false & slanderous comments, the BBB has no files on Cumberland BECAUSE they are a good an reputable company. Evedentley this consumer could not or did not read thier contract (interest rate) or the terms of their service contract they purchased.

For one, there is no such thing as a bumper to bumper warranty. New vehilces have items, for example,TIRES(which I'm betting was the vibration concern)are covered by the manufacturer of the tire, not the dealership or manufacturer of the vehicle. Sounds like on the tire issue that Cumberland & the vehicle manufacturer went above & beyond replacing the tires the one time they did as a goodwill gesture. Also they comment "warranty", when in effect it is a "service contract". The base warranty on a '97 Dakota was 3 years, 36k miles. The customer is speaking of thier service contract, which is an inclusive policy. If the failed part is listed, it is covered. Almost all of these have deductibles. Some do carry towing & rental coverage with LIMITITATIONS. Sounds again like the customer is assuming or AGAIN did not read thier policy/contract before purchasing.

As for the other complaints (E-brake & blinkers), who's to say they could not fix them. Maybe they told the customer it wasn't a covered component under thier service contract and they REFUSED to pay to have it repaired. I am very familiar with thier techs and they have a good crew that I am sure could have fixed the problem if it was acting up when they looked at it and someone (either the service contract or customer) agreed to pay for it. I'm guessing the customer expected EVERYTHING to be covered and more than likely declined the repairs because they would have to pay.

As for Sexton Auto, I know little about them, good or bad. I doubt, being 100 miles away, that anyone there(Sexton's) knows much about Cumberland, its employees, ownership, reputation or any of the community service they are apart of in the upper Cumberland area of Tennessee.
This is a great dealership in a great community.

In closing I would like to say that Cumberland is a good place to work, do business with and does good things in the community.
And when making a high dollar purchase from ANYONE. READ THE TERMS, READ THE CONTRACT BEFORE YOU BUY.

UPdate on cumberland dodge problem. I checked again into the BBB and they still have no bad listings?? I find this hard to believe because I know they have been sued by various people. One woman drover her van around town for a year with billboard signs on each side, telling people what a rip off this dealership was. She and others filed complaints with BBB. Why would the BBB not tell consumers who call them? All lies!

The BBB is paid by the dealers. That's not fair!

I had Sexton Auto repair the truck enough so that I could get it back to Cookeville. Cumerland Dodge reimbursed me $529.00 on a $649.00 bill. They took a $100.00 deductable and only paid $35.00 on the towing. The pickup is now at Cumberland Dodge because it needs additional work which should all be covered by our extended warranty. The only reason they reimbursed me at all was becuse I told them they had until the time I retrieved my pickup at Sexton Auto to make good on the warranty. If they did not the next stop was my lawyers. I will take them to small claims court for any money that they do not cover for these repairs.

Thank you for your help with this.

And yes I will pickit their dealership and drive around town with a sign on my truck if need be.
