In the spring of 2004, we purchased a new Onan generator. After careful investigation with the salesperson, a Jim Reardon, Cummins Northeast Inc. in Scarborough Maine, we purchased the Marquis Gold 5500 HGJAB for $3267.60.

Approximately four months later, it failed and needed a new "control board" for a bill of $400.50. After 3 more months of limited useage, and less than 150 hours in total, the generator failed again costing over $1100.00 to repair.

Onan will accept no responsibility and has left us over $4500.00 in the hole without a working generator. We are currently working with the Maine State Attorney General's Office and Northeast Combat( a Maine consumer protection agency). However,we need more information on possible failures such as we have experienced.

Charlie LaFoe left information as of May 2002 we have been unable to locate him or any other similar reports. He stated that Onan generator failures were so common that a class-action suit was being considered, and that all the R.V. magazines were reporting this.

We have been unable at this time to uncover any helpful information to proceed against Onan. We thank anyone in advance for any information or assistance you can give.
