In all due respect, anyone not living in a cave for the last year has knowledge of the scam to which you allude. Those checks are worthless, but still probably negotiable (initially) at your local bank. When they're returmed (AND THEY WILL BE!) you'll be obliged to make good on them under penalty of law.
.
Whatever the total figure is on the checks can represent your loss if you cash them and don't have the funds to return the money to the bank. There most likely will also be returned check fees.
