I ordered a cupola from Stephenson Cupolas online. The manufacturer is CW Ohio, Inc. I paid almost 1500 for a cupola for our barn roof.

When it arrived, it was so flimsy, we were sure the louvers were made from balsa wood. We had our roofer come by to take a look at it and he said it's a piece of sh+t and will not withstand the elements.

In short, it is a terrible no-good product that the company won't stand behind. When I called them to demad a refund, they claim I can't return it because it is a "custom" order. (There was no indication that it was a custom order). I might expect this quality from a thrid world country but it's made in the USA. What a shame!

Buyer Beware!!

The online marketplace is not the Wild West where anyone can throw up a website and sell shoddy merchandise and then claim no responsibility to the consumer for it’s shoddy products and poor business practices. This rebuttal is remarkable in it’s ignorance of consumer laws and protections. The rebuttal totally exposes them as a rip-off company and now everyone can see that the company is quite comfortable selling sub-par quality products and blaming the customer when they complain.

I will also file a complaint with the FTC on this company to stop stop their unfair, deceptive and fraudulent practices in the online marketplace.

Assumption...

When you shop online there is the assumption that what YOU are purchasing is EXACTLY what YOU need. The problem is it is just a picture that you are viewing. Meaning YOU cant tell one way or the other IF the item is going to work until it gets there. So the problem is that YOU assumed the product would work for your needs and it was a bargain for you at the price. But once you get it in, you see its NOT going to meet your needs. YOU assumed and when you assume you do so at your own risk. THEY are NOT a scam or a ripoff company. YOU are just mad because YOU ASSUMED and THEY wont give you a refund. Its NOT THIER FAULT that YOU looked at some pretty pictures on the screen and plopped down 1500!! THAT is on you. THEY are under no obligation to give you a refund. YOU have ASSUMED yet again. THEY already have their money and YOU have the EXACT item you ordered. Odds are that YOU are going to try and endrun around their refund policy and contact your credit card company and initiate a dispute. THAT problem is that YOU were denied because it was a custom order. Meaning THEY CANNOT SELL IT TO SOMEONE ELSE!!! IT WAS MADE FOR YOU!!!! Once they provide proof of a custom order, well lets just say that credit card companies DO NOT like doing business with people who use loopholes to get their way. Shortly after you initiate the dispute, YOU will be denied the credit card refund AND they tend to drop you as a customer because of it. All in all YOU are only a victim of YOUR NEEDS AND WANTS!!! Not some heartless company. YOU CHOSE to make a large purchase online. YOU CHOSE the item YOU wanted. Just because YOU don't like it doesn't mean YOU get a refund. THAT is self entitlement and its NOT pretty. Online purchases are great for small items. But to drop 1500 on something you NEED based ONLY on a few pictures, well THAT is just as silly and irresponsible as expecting that YOU are going to get your money back. Sorry, but THAT is just ONE of the dangers of shopping online. Personally I prefer to shop LOCAL!!!! It supports my town and community. It keeps ppls jobs.
