As a recent college grad, I have applied to literally hundreds of jobs across the US. Unfortunately, I have been contacted by several companies that have misrepresented themselves on websites like Monster and Career Builder. The job market is hard enough right now without these ridiculous "marketing and sales" scam companies taking advantage of young adults entering the workforce. Most of these "sales to management" schemes have been reported here, but I noticed CXN Inc was not. After interviewing with a business (KSLC) in Atlanta, I learned that most of these "entry level" positions listed on job sites really mean door-to-door sales. When the lady at CXN began to tell me about the company's direct sales marketing techniques and asked me if I was familiar with AT&T's U-Verse, I realized that this was the exact same thing I experienced in Atlanta. I explained to the lady from CXN that I was familiar with AT&T's U-Verse, and asked her if this was door-to-door sales. She responded by saying that they went where AT&T told them to go and that sometimes that did involve residential sales. U-Verse is a cable alternative service that is most certainly offered almost exclusively to residential areas. It's door-to-door sales, and it's 100 percent commission based. I feel dumb enough for falling for this once.

I ended my phone conversation with the lady from CXN by telling her that I had interviewed with a similar company selling the exact same product in Atlanta and was not interested in door-to-door sales. She was very interested in finding out the name of KSLC, and seemed caught off guard with my line of questioning.

If you are a recent grad and are reading this, please check out the websites of all the companies you apply to and investigate their legitimacy. I really hate that these places are out here taking advantage of young people, and I hope others can learn from my naivete. Good jobs are not easy to come by, and if something seems too good to be true... it probably is. Thank goodness Ripoff Report is here to help us out a bit.

Look up KSLC on Ripoff Report for some others' experiences with companies like this. Mine was very much similar to theirs.

Good Luck!

Same report you will hear a million times... a bunch of people ranting that it's a big scam company, followed by a rebuttal that says it's a legitimate company. The responders are usually ex-employees. current employees trying to save face for the company.... or the worst, the actual owner responding cause they feel offended by what they heard. I'm not going to get into that..

This company is 100% affiliated with Cydcor

If the owner or anybody else would like to say no then feel free to say so. This is a Cydcor branch and you are free to associate them with one because this is truth.  Read the reports please.

CXN is not a scam

#7UPDATE EX-employee responds

As always, a little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing.  The previous comment is correct - a negative comparison between two companies, made in writing, can not possibly be slander.  This is only because slander must be spoken.  This sort of comparison, made without a factual basis, can be libelous, which is the written (and far more dangerous) version of slander.

I worked for Mr. Koontz at CXN for about 6 months.  This is relevant for two reasons.  First; I know enough about the company's history to attest with confidence that CXN has nothing to do with KSLC, the company which is the subject of this complaint.  Second, I can say that CXN is not a scam.  At the outset, the job is difficult, the hours long, and the pay is not overwhelming.  If you stick with it, and find a way to succeed, the job gets easier, the hours better, and the pay can be outstanding.  The job simply isn't for everyone.  Many people do not see a return which matches their effort.  Understandably they leave and do something else.  This is exactly how the job was presented to me at my interview, I chose to give it a shot.  It wasn't for me, but it certainly wasn't a scam.

Hope this clears up some misconceptions.

What Mr. Koontz doesn't tell you in his response is he is listed with the BBB, but is not accredited, and was run out of Kansas under the Verdigris Marketing group name. His partner in the same office is Jason Doliveck which burnt up the Tennessee area under the Herodean marketing group name, now using the name TEK marketing. They basically go into a city rent an office and sale door-to-door claiming to get you to your own marketing firm yourself then once you reach the top they leave you there in shambles because they move to a new city to do the same thing as long as it hasn't been hit. This is why they are only contracting one company at a time AT and T, once that runs out they will start over with a new companies contract and do the same thing. Also notice the contract time so far has only been 13 weeks. If you even go to the old company names and click on them it will link you to their new marketing website with their new names. Mr. Koontz also need to learn what slander is as comparing your company to another and claiming you do the same thing is not slander. Thought what the company does is not illegal as they do have a contract with AT and T to do what they do, but they burn out the area with it then leave moving to the next city. Therefore, once you reached their level as they claim. They change their name every time they move. Therefore, there may be more companies they have gone in as in different cities. Basically what they do is take their entire office staff move them re-recruit and rake in as much cash as they can and then move. You can easily search the old marketing group names or even their actual names to find this out in google.

Its a door to door commission based sales scheme. The only thing he got wrong is the Uverse isnt what they are selling...yet. Thats not until september, they are just laying the groundwork for when it does kickoff and AT&T opens 3 more offices in the louisville area.

They bring people in the door talking about management roles and then try to sell them on 16 months of door to door sales on commissions to advance.

Door to Door

#7UPDATE EX-employee responds

Sat, April 04, 2009

I wanted to comment on the reports given in this thread..

I worked for a similar company to CXN that did door to door sales for ATT products that included home phone,DSL,Direct TV/Dish Network, as well as Uverse. Products I believed in and products that many consumers believe in as well.

When I was called in for my first interview I will admit, I did not know what we were doing until we actually got out to the field and started mapping out territory. At first I was thinking "hell no, I'm not doing this. I didn't know this was door to door sales!" I decided to at least watch my interviewer and see how it's actually done. Plus it was a long ride back to the office and I didn't want to inconvenience anyone by wanting to go back..especially without at least seeing the process. So I decided to stay and see if this person was going to make any money doing this.

As the day went on and my interviewer started to explain the 4 phases of management and met with customers concerning their services and new products and services I started to think: "Hey, I know a little bit about what she/he's talking about regarding ATT, maybe it's not so bad" By the end of the day my interviewer was concluding the end of our interview and I asked, "So, how much did you make today?" thinking maybe 50-60 bucks at the most. They told me, "Oh, I don't know. Maybe $350-$400. I have counted my products or apps yet." I thought, "Holy S*&t!" That's pretty good money..if I could make a small portion of that per day I wouldn't mind having this gig! At that point I wanted to seem eager and very interested in the job so we returned to the office. I was brought in after a questionnaire and the owner asked me, "if i thought this was for me", and "what my goals were", etc..They said that my interviewer came back with a strong and very high evaluation of me. So they hired me right then..

I started training the following day. I thought that there had to be a catch somewhere. After receiving a few days of training and the week went on I realized that in order to make that kind of money you must be:

Very driven
Good with people
Have strong work ethic
Able to take negatives and "no's" from people in the field.
Constructive criticism, etc

I was still new to the process and still feeling things out. Our "training'' consisted of drills/scenario's/product knowledge stations, and games.. By the beginning of the next week, I had made $700 and was promoted to phase II (Leadership). This meant much more responsibility and a a chance to build my team. I won't explain much more than what I have already. But my point is that:

1. If I had been told in the beginning it was door to door, I would've never showed up

2. The "training" I received was more of the others in the office that were willing to meet with me and help me achieve my goals. I learned more by meeting with others than anything, as well as asking questions.

3. They are not "deceiving" anyone. I would say that they are concealing certain information necessary to be able to "show" an interview what they do. Because anyone that is reading this now will know and admit that if they knew right off hand what they were interviewing for, the would judge the situation.

4. These offices mentioned in the "Rip Off Report" are owners of a business that they earned themselves. It was not given to them. It takes ALOT of hard work, alot of self confidence, and great work ethic to be able to do what they do. Door to Door sales is probably the most difficult form of sales and marketing on the planet If you do well at that, you can do well at anything.

5. I learned more and gained more knowledge from my experiences than I have at any other job. They teach you how to teach others and transfer knowledge. Because one cannot run their own office, have their own employees, and progress a business without knowing the structure and the tools to transfer knowledge.

6. I got the chance to help recruit, interview people, and learn the structure of being successful.

7. I was able to provide for myself and my family

8. I learned something new everyday. I learned that it is how you look at things and your mind set that controls your success. If you look at it like it's just door to door sales and there's no way that anyone can make money doing it, then you have just decided yourself that it's not going to happen.

9. I learned to transfer knowledge

10. I learned most importantly that I could do this job and I wanted others to have the same chance to provide opportunity that I was getting.

I'll end with this: I agree to some extent that it is a type of "multi-level marketing" and it may seem like a scheme. Even when you start seeing the interview process in the 2 and 3rd stage for yourself and seeing how things are ran once your a part of the office. And i've had interviews tell me how the felt cheated for not knowing the d to d sales part, how i'm being schemed and so forth. I can't say whether that is completely true or completely false. All I can say is that I enjoyed doing it, I was very successful at it, and I made alot of money, as well as learned alot about life and business. It's not for everyone and I never thought it would be for me. But, if I hadn't stuck it out that day and gave it a shot I would have never known. I'm glad that I did...

#7REBUTTAL Owner of company

Fri, March 13, 2009

First, I appreciate the concern for the job seekers of Louisville, Jefferson County, and Kentucky. I think they deserve a transparent and unbiased job search.

In response to your comments, I will gladly respond, in effort to match the aforementioned appreciation.

CXN, Inc. is an independently owned and operated company based in Louisville. We have absolutely no connection to KSLC which was the company you had cited. We have no connection with any company in Atlanta or any other city.

We do indeed work with At&t, but I feel that your comments toward our company are somewhat misleading to the public. At&t UVerse is not even a product offered in Louisville, KY, which would hinder our ability to sell it door-to-door. Feel free to check www.att.com for verification of that information. With that knowledge in mind, it makes your comments slanderous and libel towards our organization. It is very unfair and illegal to slander a company. With any amount of due diligence, it would be very easy to learn the above listed information regarding At&t and their product(s).

In defense of our company, we are a member of the Better Business Bureau. We employee 45 people that are able to provide for their family with the help of our company. We are actively involved in the Louisville community. We are contracted by the largest telecom provider in the world and have been their number one partner in the Southeast for 13 consecutive weeks. We possess the exclusive contract for the states of Kentucky and Tennessee. If we were a "ripoff", I would venture to ascertain that a Fortune 100 company would shy away from doing business with us. We do have a working relationship with Careerbuilder, Yahoo! Hot Jobs, and Monster; feel free to verify our legitimacy with any of those companies. We also have strong relationships with the Career Services Departments of the University of Louisville, University of Kentucky, Western Kentucky University, University of Cincinnati, Xavier University, University of North Carolina, University of Dayton, Indiana University, and Ohio State University.

Any reader of this report can feel free to contact me, anytime, at 502.425.4081 or via email at tkoontz@cxninc.com. I will answer any and all questions regarding anything.
